well what you consider to be statements are actually opinions and opnions cannot be proven because opinion are subjective. Only objective statement can be proven.

Example: «The cubs are holding the 1st place in NL central division.» That is an objective statement it can be proven. You just have to post the link to the current standings to prove it. It's either true or false you cannot agree or disagree with that.

Another example :«The cubs are the best team in the NL Central division» This is an opinion. It cannot be proven because it's subjective. It's neither true or false, you can agree or disagree with that.
