No it degrades yourself, the product/company you are representing by default, or creates a consumer base that is obsessed beyond their purchasing capabilities. If you are selling a product and the majority of your customers have the mindset, "better than the competitor, because so-n-so said so", you have a bunch of (brainwashed/obsessed) iPhone fanboys that are impressed when Apple releases technology Google released 5 years ago. So with the exception of fanboys, customers do not hear the insults; they hear a question to ask the alternative service. When you ‘bash’ your competitor you’re taking time (doing the customer a disservice) you should be using to inform the customer about your product/service. Often this leaves the consumer felling like the sales rep knew more about their competitor’s product/service rather than their own product/service.
In the case mentioned above, look at Micah Johnson and other arrested extreme left wing activists. I am willing to bet have become such fanboys of the show they are acting out the feels the show sold them.
