Christianity is a monotheistic religion, and Mormons are polytheists.

Ummmm, not so. What other diety do they worship? By that argument. Catholics and Koptics and Russian Orthodox are polytheistic.

You miss my point. The basic Tennant's of Mormonism, whether you agree or don't, is based on the teachings of Christ. You have millions of Catholics who have diefied Mary, etc. Coptic, Catholics, and Russian Orthodox have prayers for various saints and angelic embodiments. Sooo....

And no, I'm not buying into Mormon interpretation.

Nope. I'm saying that they too could be viewed polytheistic in a literal sense.
The claim of Christian is based purely on the notion that they believe that they are following Christ's teachings.
Look at Christian Science or four square. They are just as odd in their beliefs, yet considered Christian. Maybe Christian Cults would be more suitable

It's not specific enough. Muslims hold Christ to be a prophet, and they believe they are following his teachings.

How do you make that call? They will self identify. Jews feel the same way about Christ, yet neither claim to be Christian. So I miss that point. I'm all over the map right now, so literally, I may be missing it.
