Can't we all just meme along?

You're right that people tend to misuse the word "troll" for someone stating a differing opinion from theirs, in a way that they don't like (e.g. conservatives call liberals trolls, and vice versa). But at the same time, there has been at least one user making alt accounts in order to cause trouble, and make harassing comments on people's memes. I thought that was what most of the troll memes lately were referring to.

Also, sometimes users who have a number of popular memes refer to the people who put annoying comments on those memes (presumably motivated by jealousy) as "trolls." I don't know whether that's really the right use of the term or not.

In both examples of yours that's trolling.

I'm referring to people mislabeling people with the term.

So your meme is saying you want people to stop using the word "troll" for general disagreement, and only use it for when someone is intentionally causing trouble of some kind.

Yes except for it would be intentionally trying to bother a person.

The definition of an internet troll says that they have to be intentionally pissing you off.

So if it's just two people disagreeing and not backing down or allowing the other person to spread rumors and labels, it's not trolling. It's just bickering. Arguing. Conversation. Etc.

I just hate standing my ground in conversations here (and on other sites) and having people always call me a troll because I don't just accept whatever THEY SAY as the truth.

It's like people get mad that someone is disagreeing, and the first thing that pops into their heads is the word troll.

I only call people who I think are trying to get under my skin intentionally to I guess "win" and argument or look cool/whatever, a troll. lol :{

But that's the point.

People are applying the word wrong like that.

An asshole isn't a troll unless he's intentionally trying to get under your skin. Provoking you in some way.

Always pulling the "troll card" so to speak, is getting old.

It's like all the adults on imgflip can't handle life and the arguments that ensue.

You can't just avoid everything you hate in life and call that living.

I get that it irks you when someone is just not accepting your point of view, but mislabeling them as a troll is just hypocrisy.

The label troll is MEANT to hurt the target's feelings. Which IS trolling.

And regardless of if you THINK someone is a troll, and justify to yourself that "trolling them back" is not hypocrisy, it's just masturbatory self delusion.

I pretty well reserve the word "Troll" for those that do things out of malice or spite. People who downvote just to be mean/rude or creating alts to harass another. Other than that...they're probably just a dick.

I dunno, it's the Internet - all shapes and sizes, eh?

I wish more people online knew how to do that too.

You're right on here, there seems to be some confusion with what's trolling and what's simply an opinion. And everyone is getting all bent out of shape over it.

There seems to be a lot of card pullin' these days.

I hope people start remembering how to logic/reason/substantiate. :{
