As someone who actively budgets and tracks expenses, I pay less in taxes than housing and food, which are my largest expenses. Income over 50k

I find it dubious that the website adds state income tax to federal income tax. They should fire their accountant.

The point is about the total taxes one pays. State income tax and federal income tax are both taxes along with all the other taxes.

It's also quite clear about state and federal as separate:

"Americans will pay $3.3 trillion in federal taxes and $1.6 trillion in state and local taxes, for a total bill of almost $5.0 trillion, or 31 percent of the nation’s income."

Or you can check the website at the irs which refers to the same page. Maybe the irs needs to fire their accountant too? https://apps.irs.gov/app/understandingTaxes/whys/thm03/les05/ac2_thm03_les05.jsp

State taxes and fees are deductible from federal tax.

Ok. The IRS and the tax foundation are wrong. onagerfist of imgflip knows all. Thanks, when I hire my next CPA I'll give you a call instead of my other guy.

Again, see the page that the IRS itself links to so you can see the tax freedom day for your state. It says quite plainly in several places what the total fed and state taxes collected are. For example:

"$3.3 trillion in federal taxes and $1.6 trillion in state and local taxes, for a total bill of almost $5.0 trillion, or 31 percent of the nation’s income"

That $1.6 trillion in state/local is after all deductions. I.e., it's actual collected tax. Your argument is invalid.

Kind of an over reaction, no? I know everything on the internet is legit, who is anyone to question it?

No, it's just a waste of time if someone is going to argue a BS point when that person can't be bothered to read and understand what a website says correctly, or comprehend the significance of the IRS themselves linking to that information. I don't have time for this.
