To be fair, the first movies were playing on the "father-son, My dad doesn't love me, I hate my dad" struggle. And the others were prequels showing how he became evil.
I also think at this point the misogynistic internet culture is just trolls playing on the feminists of the internet's short temper. That and those old, evangelical Christian types or traditional Muslims.
