It is my understanding that when a delegate pledges their vote to a candidate, they are only obligated to vote for him on the first ballot. If there is not a clear majority winner on the first ballot of the convention, all delegates are free to vote for whomever they choose, in that case John Kasich actually stands a good chance of receiving the nomination.
