The US is actually much closer to a Democratic Socialist society than a Capitalist economy. In a Democratic Socialist society, capitalism and socialism work hand-in-hand, which is exactly the state of our economy. The government is in control of a ton of stuff, and capitalism is in control of a lot too. There are well over 100 socialist programs in America, most of which people are just ignorant of. If you took the time to see how much of your tax dollars actually go to national parks, monuments, libraries, museums, zoos, police, fire dept, FBI, CIA, food stamps, medicare, military/defense, infrastructure, postal service, student loans and grants, garbage collection, farm subsidies, Congressional health care (Yep. You're paying for it.), polio vaccine, EPA, social security, public education, jail/prison systems, corporate/business subsidies, veteran's healthcare, all government officials payrolls, sewer system, court system, bird flu vaccine, GI bill, Hoover dam, IRS, free lunch program, Pentagon, medicaid, FDA, disability insurance, corporate bailout/welfare, unemployment insurance, PBS, NPR, Amtrak, and so so many more, but I think you get the point, you would understand that America has been slowly becoming more and more a socialist-style economy for the past 70 years. It's been happening slowly right under everyone's noses, and guess what? Majority of those programs were implemented by Republicans, the very people who say that we need less government (Despite the fact that they keep created more government, maybe to pay for their salaries).
If you even took a minute to see how America works, you would understand it's not strictly a "Capitalist" society anymore. It's evolved. Welcome to the Democratic Socialist USA. It's been here for decades.
