You start to undervalue freedom by undervaluing those who fight for it.

I've met some from this generation who were military age and patriotic types. I ask them, "Why haven't you joined the military to help protect this last shred of freedom?". They answer overwhelmingly "Because Barack Obama is president". You see, the military is treated so poorly under this current administration, that they cannot attract good men and women.

I ask those leaving the military the same question. They answer overwhelmingly that they are leaving because while we are giving billions to our enemies, somehow our own military cannot afford proper training and equipment. Policies are coming down like the DADT repeal and forcing women into combat roles that are showing how little our opinions, lives, morale, and camaraderie are valued.

And so those of us who join anyway, and those who stay, I salute you. You have decided that despite everything going on today, and how you may be treated and paid, that there is a greater cause of freedom worth fighting for. You have decided that regardless, you will be ready to take a stand when called on, while others sit idly by.
