Right, spelling is a part of "BASIC ENGLISH", I didn't mention grammar.

"English" is typically used to refer to grammar.
Besides, "collar" breaks pronunciation rules, and thus, it is not basic at all.

Ok, once again, I did NOT mention grammar, you did. You just like to try to stir up shit, I know you. Does this sound familiar "I like phrasing things in a way that makes me sound like I'm issuing a challenge. It's more likely to get a response"?

I will defer to your expertise on this because I know that you're in the eighth grade, so you probably have a lot more current experience in this area.

Back when I was in the eighth grade (40 years ago) they actually taught SPELLING in schools. SPELLING was part of another class called ENGLISH (or in some of the more progressive schools LANGUAGE ARTS). I never sat through a class called GRAMMAR.

Look at the meme's* image again, he's holding a sign that says BASIC ENGLISH. He was teaching a basic English class (all encompassing), not basic spelling or basic grammar.

Also, when I was in eighth grade, I knew how to spell collar, it IS basic, unless they've lowered their standards, which I wouldn't doubt. It's probably common core.

1. When I was in school, English class tought grammar. Spelling was altogether a different subject.

6. I too knew how to spell "collar" in 8th grade. However, knowing something in 8th grade doesn't make it basic.
