Often, people mostly become fans of a certain artist for the superficial sense of community that comes with it rather than genuine appreciation for the music

That‘s not necessarily true. A lot of people rather like music either because the melody sounds nice, or (in the case of swifties) because they relate to the lyrics. For example, I like TOOL, Rammstein and Imagine Dragons, but not because of their fandoms, but because I like their songs. It‘s most certainly not because of my friends, considering that barely anyone knows TOOL.

Very true. That's why I said 'often' and not 'always'. It's nice to find people who have fine tastes and are in it for the music :)

But it's hard to imagine how a 12 year old would relate to love, heartbreak, etc. that don't really come up till at least your late teens. I guess by people I meant impressionable kids who haven't found their identity yet
