back in the mid 90s it used to be a skill that took more than two days to learn since it was an actual talent that required slowly developing your vinyl collection over years by going to physical record stores wherever and whenever you could afford to rather than just sitting down in your bedroom and having access to an unlimited supply of far too much music, most of which that could potentially even be had for free..
whenever we traveled to a party in a new city or another state, we always tried to get into town early hoping we might get one shot at hitting up the local record shop for a couple hours and if we were lucky and everything wasnt already picked through that week, maybe finding one or two things we liked..
same went for shopping locally, they get new releases on tuesdays and most shops only get a few copies of each and there was never more than one or two shops in a city, so you had to be quick or youd be hearing someone drop a floorstomper next weekend that could have been yours but your slow ass missed out.
there is nothing like the feeling of going to a different shop for the first time where you havent already dug through their bins and dont already know everything they have..
at this point its pretty much just a joke and as we can all see, its literally become a meme.
im glad i lived when i did and quit playing out once i realized the downfall of analog and actual mixing was about to happen and it all started to become a hassle..
it became quite obvious when parties no longer had turntables and told you to bring your own if you want to play vinyl.
the new technology is cool, but the fact that it basically killed the craft of they actual dj really sucks..
these new guys really shouldnt be calling themselves djs at all since all they are in reality is bps.
to be honest, it all started to die once the majority of parties started serving alcohol and being sponsored by pepsi, after that it was only a matter of time before they would move from dark dingy warehouses to big commercial arenas.
everything goes to shit once it sells out and goes commercial.
thanks, im done now.
