It has alwas been cruel. Think of the Roman gladiators - 'Are you not entertained' to the massive crowds at public execurions o the early 20th century - As I said before, these types of television shows are i that tradition

Another Japanese gameshow was when they stuck a man in a small apartment room and had him get food, money, and clothing from scratch off tickets in magazines. Also there was the on where they stuck 2 guys in Africa and had them get back to Japan with almost nothing.
