I've never actually seen the show, but my guess from basic kids cartoon episode clichés is that there was an episode where Garfield finds a normal spider, but even after Jon tells him they're harmless, he still has a nightmare of a bunch of spiders chasing him, which is probably the context... idk why, I just feel that that's true

It's from an episode of The Garfield Show called "Time Twist". I can't remember exactly what happens in the episode but garfield gets sent to some alternate dimension where citizens are giant spiders and is chased by spider jon and odie because he swatted spiders in the real world.
