Fun Fact: there is a species of lizards without legs that resembles a snake. The only difference is that they have eyelids and can blink while snakes can’t.
You know, I think this was even foreshadowed, albeit not very far, in the animation. The design of the president "snake" is much different from the regular civilian snakes, even before we learn they're actually a lizard.
