I make characters in my mind and narrate them into an unsurvivable traumatic experience and then they come out barely alive, only to find out that their beloved has been exploded.

My oc's average experience is like: They get stolen from your home at a young age and sent off to fight in a war. After 10 years of brutal training where everyone hates them, they're sent into battle for the first time. as it turns out, they are an amazing soldier. They go on fighting battles for a while, then suddenly the weight of all the lives they have taken, all the homes they have destroyed, etc. gets realized. They then run away with their only friend and nearly die in [insert natural distaster here], where their friend dies.

I smell a novel.
