Yes, I'm sure it was. Spin up a flywheel with a good bearing and it'll go for minutes. If you think on the video it's going backwards, it'll just be a facet of the video sampling speed.

Do you think the spring/pedal arrangement in the drive shaft would prolong the spinning ?

I don't know how to modify the video sampling speed but I've just added a link to the original clip

No they'll be a slight slowing element. The wheel will take energy when the springs extend but return practically all the energy when they shrink.
