Death is the irreversible cessation of all biological functions that sustain an organism. For organisms with a brain, death can also be defined as the irreversible cessation of functioning of the whole brain, including the brainstem. Brain death is sometimes used as a legal definition of death. The remains of a former organism normally begins to decompose shortly after death. Death is an inevitable process that eventually occurs in all organisms. Some organisms, such as Turritopsis dohrnii, are biologically immortal. However, they can still die from means other than aging. Determining when someone has definitively died has proven difficult. Initially, death was defined as occurring when breathing and the heartbeat ceased, a status still known as clinical death. However, the development of CPR meant it was no longer strictly irreversible. Brain death was the next option, but several definitions exist for this. Some people believe that all brain functions must cease. Some believe that even if the brainstem is still alive, the personality and identity are irretrievably lost, so therefore, the person should be entirely dead. Death is generally applied to whole organisms; the similar process seen in individual components of an organism, such as cells or tissues, is necrosis. Something that is not considered an organism, such as a virus, can be physically destroyed but is not said to die, as a virus is not considered alive in the first place. As of the early 21st century, 56 million people die per year. The most common reason is cardiovascular disease, which is a disease that affects the heart. Many cultures and religions have a concept of an afterlife that may hold the idea of judgment of good and bad deeds in one's life. There are also different customs for honoring the body, such as a funeral, cremation, or sky burial. A study known as biogerontology seeks to eliminate death by natural aging in humans, often through the application of natural processes found in certain organisms. However, as humans do not have the means to apply this to themselves, they have to use other ways to reach the maximum lifespan for a human, such as calorie reduction, dieting, and exercise. As of 2022, a total of 109 billion humans have died, or roughly 93.8% of all humans to ever live.

Terrorism, in its broadest sense, is the use of intentional violence and fear to achieve political or ideological aims. The term is used in this regard primarily to refer to intentional violence during peacetime or in the context of war against non-combatants, mostly civilians and neutral military personnel. There are various different definitions of terrorism, with no universal agreement about it.

The terms "terrorist" and "terrorism" originated during the French Revolution of the late 18th century but became widely used internationally and gained worldwide attention in the 1970s during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, the Basque conflict, and the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. The increased use of suicide attacks from the 1980s onwards was typified by the 2001 September 11 attacks in the United States. The Global Terrorism Database, maintained by the University of Maryland, College Park, has recorded more than 61,000 incidents of non-state terrorism, resulting in at least 140,000 deaths, between 2000 and 2014.

Varied political organizations have been accused of using terrorism to achieve their objectives. These include left-wing and right-wing political organizations, nationalist groups, religious groups, revolutionaries, and ruling governments.

Terrorism is a charged term. It is often used with the connotation of something that is "morally wrong". Governments and non-state groups use the term to abuse or denounce opposing groups. While legislation defining terrorism as a crime has been adopted in many states, the distinction between activism and terrorism remains a complex and debated matter. Legislation declaring terrorism a crime has been adopted in many states. There is no consensus as to whether terrorism should be regarded as a war crime. State terrorism is that perpetrated by nation states, but is not considered such by the state conducting it, making legality a grey area.

The following is a list of the top-three tallest buildings in Wisconsin. At number one stands the U.S. Bank Center, at a surprisingly short 601 feet (183 meters). It was built in 1973 and is located in the city of Milwaukee. It has 42 floors. It was previously known as the First Wisconsin Center from 1973 to 1992 and the Firstar Center from 1992 to 2002. The building won a Distinguished Building Award from the Chicago Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 1974. At number two stands the Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons, at 550 feet (167 meters). It was built in 2017 and is also located in Milwaukee. It has 32 floors. The Northwestern Mutual Tower is the largest office building in Wisconsin and is mostly made of glass. It is located a block east across Wisconsin Avenue, from the aforementioned U.S. Bank Center. Finally, at number three, we have the 100 East Wisconsin, which is around the same height in meters as number two, being only a foot shorter. 100 East Wisconsin has 37 floors and was built in 1989. It was also built in Milwaukee and was designed as a postmodern version of old German vernacular architecture, being built on the site of the former 14-story Pabst skyscraper.
