I recommend at least having gold armor and a decent ranged weapon with plenty of ammo, a topaz staff is very helpful too. The trick is that he has an easy to learn pattern, you can shoot it from below, and when it dives, run one way, when it comes out of the ground, dodge the opposite way you just came from. Keep repeating this until you get to the second stage, once the second stage happens, make sure you are in an open area, just run and shoot behind you. It helps to have items that speed you up or jump higher, hope this helps
