The reason why people hate Dream is because of the stans in his fan base. Obviously they only make up a small portion of his complete fan base, but a lot of people got really annoyed by them (specifically when they would ship characters and make nsfw fanart) so they associated this small group of idiots with Dream and all of his fans and now they hate us all
Yeah it’s quite unfortunate as there are a lot of normal who enjoy watching the funny British ginger fight the homeless green teletubie over music discs who don’t like being judged for the crap that the stans pull (also that wasn’t hate against any of the Dsmp members it was just a joke summary)
