New Zealand was named after a region of Holland called zeeland, and when Abel Tasman discovered New Zealand, he named it new zeeland. Later, when James cook found new zeeland, he renamed it to New Zealand using the British spelling rather than the Dutch spelling. We did it boys, we found old Zealand.
