If he has a gravestone maybe just head over there (walk, drive, bike, however you want to) and leave a few flowers, that's all you really need to do
(if you can't afford to buy them, your local park or really anywhere has some nice ones you can forage)

He died in Washington state and now I’m in Indiana.

He might of gotten cremated.
