The Council of Ministers website www.government.bg is temporarily unavailable due to a cyber attack. The necessary measures are being applied to neutralize the attack and recover access to the page as quickly as possible", said the Government in a statement, without giving further details.
The executive's cybersecurity coordinator, Petar Kirkov, blamed Killnet, a group of pro-Russian 'hackers', which claimed responsibility for the action on Telegram.
The same group claimed responsibility for a similar attack last October against the websites of the Presidency, the Ministry of Interior and several banks and mobile operators in Bulgaria.
The Killnet group has carried out numerous attacks since the beginning of Russia's aggression in Ukraine against several European countries it considers Russia's enemies.
According to specialists consulted by the Efe agency in Sofia, these attacks did not provoke the disclosure of information, but their main objective was to damage the reputation of the attacked country.
