Just tax land lol

I think the problem with that though is that it'll make it harder for poor people to buy land, while wealthy would still be able to afford it. I'm more in favor of abolishing all or most current federal taxes, and making a federal sales tax. That would make taxes based off of what you consume rather than what you contribute (income tax) and it wouldn't target anything in specific that would make it extra difficulty for poor people to afford.

Not really, if anything the price of land would drastically reduce because the wealthy already buy up vast swaths of land and rent it out to those who can't afford it or speculate on it, which increases the demand for land increasing the price. A high enough land tax would punish those who don't utilize land efficiently (breaking land monopolies) and make land speculation impossible.

At the current spending rate of the federal government a sales tax would have to be at least 25%, which is absurd. I'm assuming you also want to lower the size of the federal government. Fair enough, but weren't you complaining about big businesses? Sales taxes hurt small businesses the most, the competitor to big businesses.

Fair enough, though that's based on the assumption that the price would go down, and if that were the case, wouldn't the tax go down with it? Unless you don't base the tax on the value of the land but rather acreage.

Yes, I do believe that spending should decrease of course. 30% or so of income being taken is absurd too so that's sort of a separate discussion. How does a sales tax hurt small business anymore than a land tax does? With a sales tax the amount is directly proportional to the value of what's being bought, and with a land tax the amount is directly proportional to the value or size of the land.

The value of the land doesn't come from the price, it comes from the natural value of the land (its production value and location)

The majority of new businesses are small which aren't usually profitable for several years but still have to pay sales taxes. Small businesses use land more efficiently than large ones.

Just out of curiosity why are you advocating for a national sales tax and not an easier to collect import tariff.

Ok I would want import tariffs to be higher than whatever the sales tax is, I just think a sales tax is a good option.

And I stand by my land taxation in a typical internet argument fashion.
