Crabs don't have to have friends. You can keep them in bug tanks if they are small. Crabs only cost about 8 bucks. With the food water and bedding, its about 30 dollars for the whole set up for one crab. Crabs don't require much attention. Only fresh fruits and veggies daily along with water. Salt and fresh. Crabs rarely pinch you, and hardly stink. They can live for long periods of time. When they molt it is easy to tell. They don't need much light due to them being mostly nocturnal.
