I'm not an expert, but I did read up on him. I saw this cartoon about 15 years ago and decided that animating it would really convey the artist's concept of Laika being a "normal" dog. It's sad that the USSR chose to let her die, but the tech to bring the capsule back to earth was not then available. Her death, however, was not oxygen deprivation, as the Soviets originally stated, but overheating due to malfunctioning in the ship
