I'm real careful about my NSFW posts. The mods let a nip slip go in one of my posts (I reported it after it was pointed out to me. I missed it, even. still, nothing was done about it)
When I was a mem-rep on Prodigy (similar to a mod here) I was pretty much given free reign because the board leaders and mods interacted directly with the posters. That was how I got the position. One time, I decided to let my story-telling talent lead me to the gutter, but I kept my feet firmly planted, and curbed the graphic language by using euphemisms to describe, to put it nicely, a house of ill-repute for people that enjoyed "self-abuse". They leaders loved the term I used for such a business, "the Masturbatorium". In fact, that was the nastiest thing in the story. While there were lewd things discussed, the use of artistic euphemisms was so well done that you could read it to your grandmother without her blushing... until after she thought about the terms. The funniest part of that thread was a troll that said he wrote porn for a living, and his editor chewed him out every time he used a euphemism: that's not what our readers are paying for. Then he went on to lecture that I shouldn't use euphemisms if I meant something lewd. I told him, look where you are: this is a comedy bulletin board, not porn central. I'm playing to basically a different audience. The terms used in porn are fine, but when you have to deal with a censor bot, you learn to get around it, and since it IS a comedy forum, euphemisms are funny. He disappeared, never to be seen again.
