If you go, don't delete, just become inactive. Time and again I've heard users who come back say they regret deleting. Not about the points, other less tangible things. Also I just found this image, I wish I had used this one in the gif...

Bummer. He was a good memester. Hope he returns.

I made the mistake of deleting my original account in October and wish I hadn't. Had to start from scratch, and am slowly pulling myself up. At the time, I was averaging about 5000 points a day, now average about 3500. Still, I persevere. I may take some time off next month,though.
