Shown here are the tungsten carbide components of an assembly manufactured by Philadelphia Carbide Co. of Oreland, PA. The assembly, which Philadelphia Carbide refers to as a “hamster cage,” consists of the main round housing, the end cap and 16 rectangle fins. The 16 long slots in the main housing are electrical discharge machined; the rectangle fins fit into the long slots. The three components, all ground to tolerances of +/- .001, are furnace-brazed together to form the final assembly---a mill used for pulverizing and classifying particulate material
