Makes me wonder if it was named the Indian Ocean because of the country OR because of the East India Company. . .and the EIC is the number one reason why government should never. . .EVER. . .be involved in running a business of any type in any way.

According to my parents and aunts there was time you couldn't swing a dead cat by the tail without hitting something that was laden with gold and/or silver in some way. In the late 1960s - early 1970s my mom got a full set of dinner plates with pure gold lining around the edge of the plates as a free promotion from the grocery store she shopped at. Unfortunately they broke over the years or the gold got worn away from to much usage. The point is that gold and silver was common enough yet remained valuable enough that even blue collar workers could get a small stash in some way.
Of course socialists didn't see it that way. All they saw were either a society that was either too greedy or the working class was oppressed too much. Granted the working class did have issues concerning things like work place safety and unfair rules and even laws about overtime, but hey, those issues got resolved. What makes it horrible is that it came at the cost of a lot of good things for the working class like valuable gold/silver currency and AfFoRdIBiLiTy got sacrificed because of the socialist influence on the policies, rules, and laws.
