I wonder if it's a corruption of something that had happened in the Bible/Torah which was bad enough in itself. Abram(not yet Abraham) was told by God to 'stay put' for a whole a lot reasons. However Abram disobeyed and went to Egypt in a Las Vegas moment. A problem he ran into was that Sarai(not yet Sarah) was very, VERY beautiful.
Abram was afraid that if the Pharoah discovered he had a hot wife, the Pharoah would kill him and take Sarai as is own. So Abram lied and said Sarai was his sister which meant she was single but under his protection from would be suiters. He had her placed in the Pharoah's harem to 'keep her safe' while Abram lived it up.
God got angry and dropped a punishment on Egypt. The Pharoah realized what was going on and kicked Abram out of the country. After hearing that in church,, I was surprised there wasn't a verse that went, "And Abram picked his teeth up off the ground after Sarai got done with him."
The point is that there are things happening today in Iran and Afghanistan that parallel what Abram did. He put Sarai in a gilded cage for her own protection while he lived it up. Women are forced to cover up head to toe partly for their own protection while the husbands live it up.
As we know people like Muhammad twisted Scriptures/Torah inside out to suit their own selfish and evil ends. They see something like what Abram did not as a whole bunch of sin and stupid but something they can use to exploit or oppress others with while retaining control over them like keeping a wife somehow 'caged' party with the excuse of protecting her or whatever.
