It's hard to know who to trust anymore. | Pretendians are a perpetual problem. We've lost 2 icons recently. Buffy Sainte-Marie is not a Canadian Cree. She is an Italian named Beverly Jean Santamaria, born in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Sacheem Littlefeather was actually Marie Louise Cruz, neither Yaqui nor Apache. Both of them arguably did help the Native community, yet the fact that they claimed to be someone they weren't indicates that they were mainly interested in self promotion. We are not amused. | As a Native Person, I don't normally use SpongeBob SquarePants templates. This show is offensive to Pacific Islanders. It takes place at "Bikini Bottom," that is the ocean floor underneath Bikini Atoll. From 1946-58 the residents of the island were convinced to leave their homes so that the United States could use it as a nuclear test site. They were assured that the US government would provide for their needs while they were exiled & that they could return home after the testing was over. Neither of these things turned out to be true. The former Bikini Islanders are trapped in a cycle of poverty with little help; the atoll is too radioactive for habitation. Hogan means: "dwelling."

Hogan means: "dwelling." | Made from earth & wood, the hogan is based on the first Navajo dwelling, built for them by Beaver & Coyote. A form of sacred architecture, the Hogan represents the universe. Like the homes of wild bees & some birds, the entrance faces East to accept the warmth of the rising Sun. Support logs are raised towards the north, south & west sides of the building. Besides stabilizing the structure, they represent female, male and two spirit (non-binary) energy. Mud & pieces of wood make up most of the structure, with some crystals embedded for spiritual protection.
