My dad was a Minister. He was a great man and I love him to no end. He taught me everything about God. I know the bible from cover to cover and my dad always said, " The greatest lie that Satan has, is to convince man that he and God doesn't exist." My dad also said, " If there is not a God, I'd rather live my life like there is one just in case." All I could think is, " I got the government trying to control my life. I don't need a church trying to the same thing." Not all people who are not christian are bad. There are good people. Christian and non-christian alike and vice versa. Now I will admit, being raised in church gave me a good foundation in life but I didn't need it to sustain my life. There are many other religions out there that I could choose to be. That are way older than Christianity, but choose not to follow those either because all religions teach one thing. Be A Good Person and Get into Heaven. Well, I am a good person but being a christian just to get into Heaven sounds kind of selfish.

Thumbs up and kudos to you brother,... ! That was a polite and reasonable comment. You may not be a practicing Christian,.. but admittedly say the church gave you a good foundation. Your comment was very polite,... and where many may disagree with your choice not to follow Christianity now,... I can see you are a good fellow with no thoughts of criticizing or disparaging those that do. You spoke of yourself as an example. I would upvote your comment many times if I could... ! That was a comment not meant to inflame or annoy anyone,.. and very respectful. I am also respectful of your choices,.. and and I can see your early foundation has stuck with you. Keep going ! =)

Annoying,.. and purposefully inflaming someones beliefs,... then claiming to have "moral standards" without needing Christian values to do so,... sounds a little hypocritical to me,.. and thats what I see one commenter here doing. Im my book,.. whatever keeps a person walking the straight and narrow is good,... but if you're not doing it on your own,... there is nothing wrong with Christian values helping out. Respect is seldom found with anti-theist,... or they would not antagonize, or disrespect, or mock theist,... which is common. Good job on your comments!

2 Samuel, 6:6. 6:7. God kills Uzzah for attempting to stop the Ark of the Covenent from tipping over. 2 Samuel, 12:14.12:16. God kills an innocent baby to punish David. Exodus,12:29 God kills all the babies to prove how powerful he is. 1 Kings, 14:10,14:12. God kills another fathers child as a punishment. Deuteronomy 13:13-19 , God commands the death of entire villages if there is but ONE among them that does not worship him. The list goes on and on..and so do the justifications. Having a God means you can rationalize anything. Flying those planes into the buildings is perfectly acceptable. God told them to do it. As an Atheist I could argue my morals are stronger than yours because I interact with REAL people, REAL humans and treat them as such. It's hard to justify hurting someone or killing babies when you see them as equals and human. But..if you have a God and he says kill everyone, even the babies..that's just dandy. 1 Samuel 15:3.

This your words: "As an Atheist I could argue my morals are stronger than yours because I interact with REAL people, REAL humans and treat them as such. It's hard to justify hurting someone or killing babies when you see them as equals and human."

Are you treating Spursfan as a REAL human and showing him respect? I saw your comments bro. I'm looking at comments back at you,... that are far more respectful than what you're giving. You don't believe,... OK,... so what do you care that someone does? You are cherry picking verses from the old testament. Got something recent? If one argues that Islam is violent,... there are hunfeds or more of recent event that show violence was committed in the name of Allah. What are you basing your criticism on that is recent? If you're moral standards are above a Christians with no need to believe in a Christian Diety,... why are you discrediting Christians for believing? Thats the "moral high road?" Your comments are making the case against yourself. The very nature of your user name is a display of hate,... or disregard or at minimum animosity towards Christianity. And the atheist way is the moral high road? I have seen Christian users on this site,... condemn hard core right wing christians for condemnation of ANYone. I have NEVER seen an atheist take that moral high road and come to the defense od a Christian for his / her belief. What does that tell ya? It demonstrates that it is socially acceptable to atheist,.. to disparage,.. & discredit Christianity and make mocking statements,... to include insults to ones family. And you're gonna convince everyon on this thread that you have equal moral values as an atheist,.. with no Christian influences? Sorry bro... your argument is weak. I respect your unbelief and opinions,.. and will defend it to my death ( as veteran),... but I can't defend your comments, willfull insults, and intolerance. We get that enough from ISIS inspired radicals,... its not cool from fellow citizens who should be appreciating that freedom of religion.

I don't care that someone else believes as long as it does not effect me. That was my original comment to the meme. That the "Atheists" he "attacks"..(yes, I'm going to say attack..because that's what Christians and Liberals do when someone questions something they say so I guess it's fair for me to so ) are repressed Christians. I then stated that IF God DID exist it would be easy to hate him. I gave examples and still do and NO one will address them they try to play it off or justify God's cruelty and that is tragic and disturbing. If God asks you to kill a family member, are you going to do it? What are your morals going to say? Are you going to disobey God or kill your daughter/mother/brother/baby? And don't say that God would never do that because if you DO believe in the Bible he has already demanded such of his followers. Read it.

I guess you are ignoring my other comments - give a recent example of the Christian God killing. Not old testament cherry picked verses. Show me where Christians are killing our daughter/mother/brother/baby. Or commintting mass genocide against others. I see ONE religion doing that,... and its not Christianity. Look at my comments,... you have an opportunity to show us all how evil Christians are,.. with recent mass killing examples. And BTW,... if your gonna use that "Hitler was a Christian" example,... save it. He was not real Christian. Thats like saying Charles Manson was a Christian. Genocidal maniacs that fell from the church are NOT Christians,... and their actions condemned by Christians. Islam is violent. I can substantiate that claim without going back thousands of years like you have in cherry picking bible verses. So show us all how evil Christianity is.. without making a point with an "exception" example. By that I mean like calling all cops bad because because of the few.
reply

No. I'm not ignoring your other comments. You're ignoring the point. So now your saying Time is a factor for God? What he did a few years ago does not matter now? Why does my example have to be recent? Even in U.S. Law there is no Statute of Limitations for Murder. Quit saying I'm cherry picking. It is IN the Bible. All of the verses I stated and there are MANY. MANY more examples of God's cruelty. No matter how many I post you will try to trivialize it by saying I am Cherry Picking. You are trying so hard to marginalize because you cannot justify. Just answer the original questions I presented and we can down to the truth of it. "Is it Free-Will if you threaten someone with murder..(or worse, eternal pain and suffering) if they do not comply? If God asked you to kill your child, would you do it? Don't avoid the questions, just answer them honestly as a Christian and then it will become apparent why Atheists question God.

straw argument bro. You are referencing the your evil God from thousands of years ago. Do it in real time. By your standards if it happened then,.. its still in effect now? History changes pal,.. at one time children worked in factories,.. women and blacks could not vote,.. and you could smoke in a theater. None of that exist now. Got something to reference as Christians being evil in this century? Also,... if you really knew the Bible,... you would know that the teachings of Christ changed a lot of old testament beliefs like you continue to reference. That my friend,.. is cherry picking. And if you have a modern day example that is not 10 thousand years old,... of God asking a parents to slay their children on a regular basis,... then I you are making my argument for m. Clearly you cannot give recent examples on a massive scale where God is asking Christians to slay their children. It simply does not happen. You cherry picked a few verses that are thousands of years old to discredit a billion plus people. By your logic,... all Italians are evil Mafia because this fraction of a percent were. . or all Olympians are trannys because of Bruce Jenner. Sorry dude,... That don't fly. If thats the bucket you keep your argument in,.. it has holes. You're an anti-theist. Fine. Be a good one then,.. not an antagonizer to those who want to believe. Really dude,.. there is a lot worse things out there than being a good Christian. And if you are a conservative,... then I refer you to the founding fathers and what they wanted for America,.. and how they themselves included God in the most precious documents of freedom that founded this country. God has been here since the beginning of America as we know it. The founding fathers wanted him here. God is mentioned on currency,.. God and the 1 commandments are posted on practically all our National monuments and superior government buildings... even the Supreme Court. Your conservative? Then I urge to to respect the same beliefs that the founding fathers did,... and included in every right you enjoy today. Your father was a vet? So am I. I don't have to agree with you,.. but I respect you. You should respect others beliefs as well. You can disagree with more respect a lot better than you did on this thread. If you want to discuss your beliefs in a manner that riff-raff did,... all the better. Talking about moms is uncool,... and justifying is uncooler. Spurs never mentioned your mom. =)

valid argument "Bro". Did God kill children or not? It says he did in the Bible. What difference does time make? Justify it. You say Christ changed the Old Testament, yet the Old Testament says anyone who adds or frtracts from the Original is a False Prophet, so you're worshipping a False Prophet if you Follow Jesus, Bro. The Founders were all Masons, Bro. They spoke of God and the Creator as a concept. No where is the name of God mentioned nor Jesus nor a Christ. Educate yourself, Bro. In fact, they intentionally did not specify which God or who's God because that is one of the main factors for leaving England and Europe. They knew what a government recognizing one God over another can do, they experienced it, Bro. Oh and Bro, get off the Mom thing. I placed a mother in a scenario. It was not an attack it was to make the connection, to make the point. If I had said "If I put a gun to a woman's head and tell her to blow me, I'm giving her free will, right? The result might be, "Eh, it's no one I know so yeah..she probably isn't even a Christian, so screw her" But by making the example a family member...it makes you think. How would you feel if this scenario played out with your mom or daughter or sister, Bro? Would you still think it was Free-will?

Ahh there is the arrogance of the true Christian. I have nothing to look forward to in death or in this life because I do not believe as you do. Talk about respect for others beliefs and then you pull the classic stunt of saying how much better you are than others that don't believe as you do. Funny thing is, I could put ALL of you Christians who have made comments here in a room and we could start going over the Bible verse by verse by verse and within a short amount of time, you wall a ALL be saying that the others ones are not real Christians, because they don't believe like you do.
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
Nope! You're taking the single verse out of context. Classic move by anti-theists.

God killed Uzzah for breaking a rule he already knew. Everyone in that camp knew they weren't allowed to touch the Ark since it's sacred and contained the Words of God. Uzzah knew that rule and still put a hand on the Ark. God killed him for that.

But, for all we know, if God strikes a rock with energy to write something, and the Jews carried it around in a gold box, maybe, just maybe, the thing is statically charged and shocked the shit out of Uzzah, killing him and the Jewish people felt that it was God and not a natural physical reaction.

And the Baby is way out of context too. David's child was ill when it was born and died a week later, and the Jews at the time believed that to be God smiting David. David felt that way too. And who ever wrote the Old Testament down felt that God had done that. Now, ignorant anti-theists like you think God killed that child too.

And Exodus: That's a natural phenomenon that the Jews took as a sign from God. The Egyptians were poisoned by their own water. The water turning red is anthrax. DUH! They drank the water right before it was noticeable. The Jews did not since they have dietary laws. Unclean water isn't kosher. God didn't kill those children in Egypt, their parents did through ignorance.

Jeroboam was a man who turned from God and lost a child. So he obviously blamed God. God also didn't kill that child. but the ancient Hebrews believed as David did, that it was a smiting from God.

And Deuteronomy: God didn't kill a city/village for there being a single non believer. You took that one WAY out of context.

God had rules against idolatry(worship of idols/false gods and obsessions/fetishes). God wants us to fight evil. That scripture is the Hebrew words for what they took that to mean. And they, THE HEBREWS, took it to mean kill idolaters or that the idolaters should be destroyed. The HEBREWS WROTE THAT by misconstruing what God had told Moses.

God only "wrote" the Ten Commandments. God "spoke" the rest to Moses. Moses wrote that down and it was pure then. but when others wanted copies of it is when the mistranslations of events and words came in. The Sataniel in men corrupted the Word slowly at first and gained speed after the pagans infiltrated the early Church.

You're "God told them" argument is flawed too. That's what PEOPLE have said. Not what God has done. You keep blaming God and for the acts of PEOPLE. :{

Way to justify God killing and ordering killing. I knew you could do it ! I didn't make those verses up, you are choosing to believe they don't say what they say. You want SO bad to justify why God kills people or allows them to be killed and orders them to be killed. I guess if you lay down rules in your house and your child breaks one, you're going to kill him? Or will you just stick him in the oven forever and ever? Yes, God DID kill Children. It says so. "At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock" This was not an act of Man. It was God killing Babies. What about the Flood? How many babies were alive before God drowned them?
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
See? You're still doing it. You're placing the blame on someone who isn't responsible.

Your parents must get blamed for everything you hate in the world too huh?

YI read those verses for each response dude. You totally misconstrued the information.

You also exaggerated A LOT.

And again, God doesn't kill people like you think. If you die of old age, it isn't God killing you.

You seem to think God should hold everyone's hands through life. Are you a child?

God didn't kill anyone though, the Hebrews interpreted deaths and cataclysm with judgement from God for wickedness and noticed a difference when they were righteous.

Just because teh Bible has a verse from ancient Hebrew texts that poetically says God killed the Egyptian pagan's children, doesn't mean that's what actually happened.

And again, it was anthrax in the water supply that killed those Egyptian children.

"At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock"

Yeah, and you're misinterpreting the data. The Hebrews wrote this, not God. Moses is the only one who had the original source.

It wasn't an act of God, it was an act of nature. The rivers there get anthrax in them every so often. They were foolish and drank tainted water and so did their children.

The Hebrews, who rightfully hated the Egyptians, took that as another sign that God smote their enemies.

The flood is also not God. A natural cataclysm happened and the people on the Ark were preppers who somehow knew or had help from God.

If you don't believe in God, why are you accusing It of murder? That's like me blaming a crime on an imaginary friend right? :{

I understand now. You're saying that what the Bible says is not true. That the things the Bible says happened did not happen the way the Bible says they did. So you are basically admitting the Bible is wrong and false. It makes more sense to me now. :-)
reply
1 up
No that's all what YOU'RE saying. See how easily you misconstrue information?

What the Bible says has to be interpreted properly to get the full value of the Word. The ancient Hebrews were superstitious. They perceived death and cataclysm as God's wrath on them for being wicked. And when they were righteous they noticed things went better for them. It's almost like a system of Karma in monotheism.

The Bible isn't wrong, but can be interpreted in ways that sound bad or contradictory, FROM A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW.

For instance, if a person like you who wants to demonize it reads the passage about Elisha and the she bears, they'll get an interpretation that God killed children.

If a person like me, who ACTUALLY RESEARCHES the translations and traditions of the Hebrews, reads that same passage, I get that God protected his prophet(a righteous man) from more than 42 wicked young men.

I interpreted it correctly, but you got the wrong interpretation from it. Mainly because you're looking to demonize the book and the religions that follow its teachings.

You're obviously just an ignorant person who's ungrateful that God made existence and gave you the chance to make something of yourself. But instead, you piss it away by trash talking theists becuase of some angst you have for God and believers. :{

1. Full of wonder? Yes. Dazzling array of awesomeness? Yes. But also full of negative things like disease, famine, natural disasters and Justin Bieber. If the positive things point to God existing, why can't the negative things point to him not existing?

2. To say that God is the only possible explanation for the universe, you would have to know beyond any shadow of a doubt that there can be no possible natural explanation, and that would require near-omniscience. It's entirely possible, and I would say extremely likely, that things came about through completely natural, if as-yet-unknown, processes.

Wrong. The word was mistranslated as "little children". They were young men and the Hebrew reflects that.

And there were at least 42(that's just how many the bears got). Elisha was one man against 42 and God even the odds so he could complete his mission to Carmel.

If you, a prophet of God, cried out for help because 42 young men were mobbed around you heckling you telling you to die(that's what go up in Hebrew meant, to go to the afterlife) and disrespecting you, an elder(it was morally wrong to insult elders), wouldn't you expect God to act on those cruel and disrespectful young men to save his prophet?

That scripture you just tried to use to demonize a religion is ALWAYS used as a go-to for demonizing the Bible . The funny thing is how little research it takes your type to accept something. People who believe in God believe from a life's worth of experiences. :{

For attention. if God DID exist, there would be plenty of reason to hate him though. he is an insecure, tyrannical megalomaniac that kills babies and commits genocide and condones slavery. I don't understand how anyone could actually read the Bible and come away feeling that the god portrayed there is any one worthy of worship.

I have seen "true" atheists and all have shown a disdain for something or someone they believe doesn't exist. I have also seen atheists who aren't strong in their beliefs not care two ways to Sunday if a god or THE God exists or not.

The problem I see with atheism is it is highly flawed. Since atheism is a belief that a higher power does not exist and that we are all here just floating around in some cosmic space by sheer accident, it is actually a belief in something. Most atheists I've come in contact with, whether it be online or in person, believe there are no gods and that we control our own destiny. They also argue very strongly that God isn't real. Some of their opinions are based on hate for God and others base it on their hate for religion.

The problem with that fact is you can't believe in something or someone and hate that something or someone at the same time. That just doesn't work. You either don't believe in a higher power and don't hate said higher power or you do believe in a higher power and argue the fact.
reply

And you also stated that God is a child murderer, condones slavery and genocide. That is the typical atheist argument and a "straw grasping" argument at that.

God does not condone any of that. The references in the Bible where most atheists will direct a Christian's attention are incidents where a nation goes against God's commandments and prefers to revel in their own incognance and sin. God will allow another nation to destroy the people who has gone against His commands.Basically, He is saying, "if you want to choose to live in sin you will reap the rewards for your sin." He is saying that a nation that turns against God is a nation living in sin. He commands that if one nation destroys a wicked society, that society must be completely wiped out.

It isn't God condoning anything. The people chose their sin and will have to be felt with.

Not true. God Kills all the first born of Egypt. He even "hardens" the Pharoah's heart in order to do so when the Pharoah was was going to let the Jews go. There are countless acts of God's cruelty and insecurity. Take Job for instance. God allows Satan to kill his family and flock just to win a bet. I could cite chapter and verse where God wantonly kills, orders to kill, promotes genocide and slavery but I've been fown that road with Christians. They , as you just did, try to justify it. God gave us free-will? Then why does he butcher and murder people that disobey his commands? Why does he send people to Hell for simply not believing? If I put a gun to your Mom's head and tell her to blow me or I'll shoot her am I giving her free-will? After all, I AM giving her a choice. Not my fault if she chooses not to blow me, right?

So he knew and allowed it to happen. In fact he had to have PLANNED for it to happen. “Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”
reply
3 ups, 1 reply
You misunderstand why evil exists in the first place.

Sataniel is the Adversary of God. A CONCEPT of the propensity of humans to commit evil.

When God gave humans free will, It gave us the ability to commit evil.

ALL EVIL IN HISTORY HAS COME FROM HUMANS. Sataniel is within all of us and we have to fight the urges/temptations to give in and commit evil acts.

WE ARE ALL SINNERS. WE ALL COMMIT EVILS THROUGH LIFE. No one makes it through life without lying, stealing, cheating, being rude, or being malicious.

When you're a child it's accepted that you don't know better and your parents are responsible for teaching you to resist evil.

That's not saying that you can resist all evils though. That's why the Christians are "Christ Like" they peruse that perfection but can never attain it. But, in doing so, they are better people over all/in general.

That's not saying that theists don't commit evil still. That's something you have to get past generalizing ALL theists as hypocrites and instead know that ALL PEOPLE ARE HYPOCRITES.

God allows us to choose our paths. And It does try and prevent evil. We all have a conscience for that reason.

So saying that God does nothing or is malicious or not omnipotent is a lack of research on your part. :{

Who created Satan?
reply
1 up, 1 reply
The Catholic Church. They made "Satan".

Sataniel, on the other hand, is a Hebrew concept that people have the ability to commit evil.

Which is true. People are the only source of evil in the know universe.

But I know you think that God must have made evil and that makes It responsible for OUR actions. Nope. We're responsible for ALL EVIL in the world. PEOPLE chose to do evil, not God allowed evil into the world. God only allowed us to have free will.

Did you blame your parents when something bad happened to you at school too? :{

The Catholic Church did not make Satan. They may have given him a name. If you believe in the Bible and the Deity then you must also believe in Satan, so I ask again, who made Satan? Didn't God make him? Does that not make HIM responsible? How can one be all-Powerful yet unaccountable? Is your God named "Obama?"

Who are you, o man, to question Yahweh's sovereignty? What is it to you that He does what He wants? It's obvious that you neither know nor do you want to know, therefore He will oppose you forever.

No, the Catholic Church, formerly know as the pagan Roman Empire, made the character Satan up by corrupting the meaning of Sataniel, the evil within all people.

And no, I can be a monotheist without believing in a personification of evil or an afterlife of torment, both of which come from Greek/Roman paganism.

God made us and Creation. God gave us free will. WE MADE EVIL. God loves us, so it doesn't just wipe us all out and let the animals take over.

Again, God never made any supernatural beings to torment us with. That's a vestigial corruption thanks to pagans.

God is omnipotent.

God is not responsible for Human's actions anymore than your parents are responsible for yours after you reach majority age.

Obama is a UN cohort. He's nothing but a socialist.

You have a lot of assumption in your response dude. :{

Atheist in general do not have that same moral standards as a christian. You're right in that Christians seek eternal life so live their life by biblical standards. The fact is.. you will never have the same morals and values as a good christian. Your dialogue is proof. You intentionally antagonize spursfan by mocking his belief.. Mentioning his mother. An atheist cannot have values that mirror a good christian. I know there are hypocritical christians... and some fall short. And there are extreme right christians.. and left. Most are middle road as myself. I looked at your profile. I don't see memes with your ideology. . Nor Christian users dogging you out. You could have ignored a meme you disagree with.. but your lower moral standards harassed someone. So here you are mentioning a guys mother to inflame him.. and his belief in the "invisible man" gives him more moral standards than one who don't believe. You were never really a former christian. You may have loosely practiced.. but God's word never really sank in or you would not have abandoned the faith. . Nor would be harassing other believers. There are a few atheist who comment on here.. and rather cool people. They exchange ideas.. not insults or flaming statements to annoy or harass.

Usually, conservatives will use the Bible instead of logic, reasoning, and science to draw conclusions morally. But still, you are the most amazing person I've ever seen on this site.

The bible has no logic? No reasoning? I find this quote from the bible to be extremely logical.. and full of reason.. especially on valentine's day! ;)

I upvoted your comment, but the "so called racism" bit rubbed me the wrong way. Racism does exist and it is a problem. That being said, not every single thing people claim is racist is actually racist. If I misunderstood your point then I apologize.

Oh there is a lot of Racism and most of it is being portrayed by the Left. Look at the stunt Beyonce pulled. Look at Jackson, Sharpton, Farakhan and the white race baiters that tell blacks the ONLY way they can have anything is if they take it away from someone else who has earned it because blacks are incapable of achieving for themselves. They need help. "Vote for me. I'll give you free housing, free medical, free food and a phone ! We'll just take the money from the people that earned it. "

You personally attacked my mother. Attack me all you want, but leave my family out of this. Yes, I take offense to that. I have the right to do so. I never attacked you personally or your family.

I create these types of memes for good debates and open dialogue, but not personal attacks on each other's family. I don't care if you were using it as an example. It was rude and malicious.

OK,... take the moral high ground, Treat him like a fellow human as you claimed earlier. Apologize for your poor choice of words / example. Decent people don't do that bro. And look at the thread,... NO ONE flaming you. Why? Christian morals bro. An intelligent guy like you who can google / copy-paste bible verses to make your argument doesn't know social etiquette in mentioning a guys mother to that sexual act? Really?
