The same people who yell about 'protecting democracy' are the same people who need to learn that-
1) The Founders hated democracy.
2) The Founders also didn't like the idea of direct voting because while they wanted citizens the right to be able to elect representatives, the Founders also knew the quiet part is that citizens can also be dumber than shit at times. Originally -
Senators were originally elected by State Legislators who were in turn elected locally with the expectation that the State Legislators were people the locals trusted. That got changed to direct voting(guess which party caused that!)
Congressmen is unfortunately direct voting all along. Guess the Founders couldn't come up with a good alternative to direct voting.
President is chosen by Electoral College.
Supreme Court - It's clear the Founder didn't want voters anywhere near it and should never happen.
