Most countries have restrictive or very strict gun laws (Where you either have to present evidence that you need a gun, or it is hard or even impossible to get a gun legally). Countries with lax gun laws vary wildly from America and Austria to Yemen, Chad, and the Republic of Congo. Countries with restrictive gun laws vary from the UK, Germany, and Canada to Turkey. Countries where it is near impossible to get a gun vary from China, North Korea, and Vietnam to the Netherlands, Ireland, and Greece, so it's safe to say that gun control does not affect how oppressive a government is.

Have you ever even left the USA? I've been to the UK, Germany, and Switzerland, just to name a few. I know people who live there full-time, myself included, and it is safe to say none of them are tyrannical or oppressive. Yemen and Chad are pretty tyrannical, so is it safe to say that all countries with lax gun laws are going tyrannical? As I have already demonstrated, there are countries from all ends of the gun control scale that are tyrannical, and the same is true for opposites.

I haven’t left the USA, but my father used to live in the Philippines. I’d say he probably knows more about that issue.

I think my dad probably knows quite a bit on whether guns can keep you safe or not since his house was looted by rebels.

It is true that guns can, in some instances, keep you safe, but if you compare the number of people who have died through easy access to guns to the number of people who have died because of no access to guns (Excluding the military), I think you will find that the latter is lower. Even if the latter is higher, there is no need for any weapon other than a simple handgun. Also, the Philippine political climate is much more unstable than in America, so the chances of you needing a gun for self defence are quite low. I think that small handguns should stay the way they are (Not personally, but I know my view would never happen), but automatic weapons should require a licence to possess.
