The church invites each stake to go do it once a year. There are a few times after the harvest of potatoes (which the church handles on it's own) us to help box them to be shipped to people who need food. There are multiple stakes in the area so we each usually do it only once a year.

Well yeah, you could call volunteer work free labor. Yes, the church owns the farms and factories, and it all goes to humanitarian aid. I don't know what you mean about wages.

ok i guess if the church is doing 'humanitarian aid' and the leaders dont just use it for themselves. funny because if it wasnt a church you would call that communism. if people are willing to work for free the owner doesnt need to pay wages. thats how many third world countries work. most people need money. i guess thats why america has so many billionaires and much poverty,

What use would they have for millions of potatoes all to themselves? Also, If you doubt it, go to churchofjesuschrist.org to find all that the church does in humanitarian efforts.

No, It's not communism if it isn't a government forcing it. First, They are not at all the our potatoes the church is taking. The church is asking us for help with their potatoes and giving us a chance to do what we believe is right and help them out. It is completely voluntary, too. From each ward of 2-3 hundred people, they only ask that 4 or 5 come, and they don't force anyone into it. For most jobs, people wouldn't be willing to work for free. We still need a source of income to support ourselves, but we don't mind volunteering for a few hours to help people out. the problem I have with communism is that the government has way too much power that would tempt most leaders to abuse it. Sometimes, the people bringing it in have good intentions, but a single bad government official with control over the people and the economy can ruin the whole thing. The church has no control over us. They cant come throw us in jail or take our homes or otherwise punish us for not working like a communist government can.

A stake is pretty much what a chapter is. We have the worldwide center of the church at SLC, Utah, but instead of the general presidency managing it all, It is divided into groups called stakes, with a stake presidency over each one. Each stake is composed of a few Wards. A ward is a group of people who all attend the same meetings, usually determined by where you live. Each ward has a Bishop at the head.
