Well, Jesus also never said "center your new belief around my person" - he was a jew and wanted to teach all the jews his message of love over hate. But people are people and they did make Christianity a new religion and a while after that a legitimate reason to hate other people... Humankind is usually what ruins every good intention with their desire to hate other people for being or thinking different.
I say, make all the jokes you want. Granted, some people won't like your jokes, but there isn't a joke without "victims". But it is everyone's own decision to be offended or to laugh or to just not care (yes, that's an option too - even if most people seem to forget that).

Well, I just don't believe in any gods, so there's no-one to hate me for being gay/trans/anything anyway. And if you believe in a god it's you who decides if that god has a problem with LGBTQ+ people or not. Christianity has different denominations, that think differently so you can't tell me that i'm misunderstanding Christianity.

So Christianity can be whatever we want it to be? No, Christianity is the belief that God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross, to forever pay for our sins (would help if you have some Historic background ((reading the old Testament))). John 3:16-For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only son, that whoever believes in him, shall have eternal life. Now, there is more to this verse than meets the eye. First of all, God wanted to give us a second chance (more like an-millionth chance), he sent a deliverer and messiah (Jesus, his son) to guide people. Second, whoever repents of their sins will have eternal life (Christians cannot repent, and then do whatever they want ((Christians are actually held more accountable for sin than normal people are, because they profess to know how to change their evil ways thrue Christ))).
