Thank you everyone for the love. It has been a horrible week. It's not over yet though. Still have so much to handle.

Memories are what helps me. Dreams too. For a few months after my dad's death I could talk to him in dreams, it was weird but cool. After mom passed I could talk to her too. I can't/don't talk to them but they still show up in my dreams. Most of the time they don't say anything, almost like they are checking in on me.

My sister was 14 when she passed. I was 9. My parents were devasted. My brothers were already out and on their own. After 9 I was an "only child". I became very close with my parents. I loved them so much. My ex was jealous. I don't understand, I gave her my undivided attention after we got married. However, my father was aging and I was helping him maintain the house. She never liked my mom. She didn't like the fact that when I was stressed out or whatever, my mom could re-center me. Unfortunately, after the divorce bombshell, mom helped re-center me. She passed away before she could see the nasty TWO YEAR divorce be finalized. It was very hard. I miss her so much. Call me a mama's boy, i don't care, she was my bestfriend. However, my mom passed away knowing full well I'd be ok because i found someone who my soul loves. It kills me my parents can't see how happy I am with my new wife but we tried to incorporate them into the marriage. Married on my mom's birthday in a gazebo my dad built in 1991 in their backyard. Wife walked out to the gazebo during Eddie Vedder's "Longing to Belong" and we walked away to Pearl Jam's cover of Neil Young's "Walk With Me". (It's actually how I proposed to her, I asked her to walk with me.)

Life is funny sometimes. It can seem to almost break you at the same time it's strengthening you. It will come around for you. Memories will sustain you. Memories will haunt you and make you cry at any given moment and that's ok. Memories are one of the things that will get you through this. Above all, remember your kids still need their mama. Don't be ashamed to ask for help. I did. My counselor is an amazing man.

My cousin who was my favorite person in the world died when he was 21. I had a lot of dreams about him for several years. I haven't dreamed of most other people who passed on. Just him so far. But it does feel almost like he comes to visit when it happens.

That is a very young age to have that sort of loss. And what a bad situation with that ex. I had one who was like that. He was jealous my grandmother when I went to her funeral. Nothing wrong with being close with your mother either. I wasn't close with mine. We went years where I didn't even want to see her. Our up bringing was an abusive one, so I harbored some resentment. The past several years we had reestablished a decent relationship. I have brother though who never would speak to her. A sister who would speak on the phone but would never go visit. They both have that regret now.

If I didn't have kids to take care of I would lose my mind. The responsibility they bring is a distraction from some of this stress. They are also a couple of clowns, so there is a certain amount of comedy relief around here.

I'm sorry you and your siblings' relationship with your mom was strained. Not very many people have that great of an upbringing by many different definitions. Doesn't matter whether you grew up rich or poor. What's even sadder are parents who can't break the cycle of child rearing, meaning what they were exposed to they impose upon their kids. Or parents who let traumatic experiences shape who they are and not who they should be for their kids. My dad had a rough life going through the great depression and losing his dad at 15. My dad had a temper and his discipline was often extreme but he also loved us deeply and would regret losing his temper on us kids. I went through a phase where I didn't really like him as a teenager but as soon as I moved out I missed him. We became close as I became an adult. I never held that against him (although my ex did) and forgave all of it. I just know the kind of dad I want to be. And the dad I need to be with a bitter ex spouse...
