around or 8 minutes at the speed of light.
~ 8 times 60 multiplied by 300.000km/s = 480*300.000km = 144.000.000km

What? My answer is correct, eh? Isn't it?

iirc,
one way is to
observe
sunrise and sunset, keeping in mind there is an angle relative to the center rotation line of the earth and keeping in mind the earth takes one turn in 24h.

Best it would be observed at the equator, there the sunrise and sunset is "sharper" and not that blurry as above or beneath the equator. Sunset and sunrise usually take around of 6 minutes. plus 1 minute at each side .... 8 minutes.
Which also gives a hint towards of the diameter of the sun.

We still didn't figured out what this kind of knowledge is good for.

Hmm, we could set a timer and see, if the sun will rise next day and if that didn't happened 8 minutes after the alarm went on, i think it is safe to say, we could either plan the rest of our time or just pray. lol

I think it is because of ENERGY. No sunlight, no energy.

If our sun will get stolen by aliens or just stops shining, how long do our energy reserves last? Hypothetically spoken.

Not that we wouldn't notice immediately, if the sun is gone or so ... our gravitational center point in our galaxy.
