this is very simple:religious extremism exists.
the reasons the radicalization are well know,and long understood.
religion is the justifier to engage in horrific acts.
nationalism is the other,and they are often conflated by the powerful to create a very potent brew.
this is pretty non-controversial and widely accepted.
