Here's an article from 2014. They were mostly unaccompanied minors.

And Obama was asking Congress for more money to make the system better.

http://krcc.org/post/obama-ask-congress-2b-ease-immigration-crisis
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Not to make the system better! It was to make it more efficient at deporting children.

Here's what I posted at iaonsite who referred to the same article:

"What that article states is that Obama wanted money to deport more children faster.

Furthermore it states that he wanted new arrivals sent home first so that the possibility of them staying with family members here in the US would be bypassed. The article said Obama wanted this to be done to send a message to their home countries citizens to let them know they are not welcome.

Children that arrived in the US with parents would often be deported without their parents. They would be dumped into their violent home countries without any supervision. I know this because immigration attorneys have told me this.

Obama didn't give a shit about those kids. Not one shit. "

He wanted those kids gone, not to help them.
reply

those kids came in waves we were unprepared for. Obama asked for more money to be better prepared. Trump COULD have been better prepared IF Congress helped Obama with his plan.

Obama was known as the "Deporter in Chief" for a reason. But he did it the best he could with what CONGRESS gave him.

Barack Obama: Added $8.588 trillion to the national debt, an increase from the $11.657 trillion debt at the end of Bush’s last budget, FY 2009 for a grand total of $20.245 trillion.

FY 2017 - $672 billion.
FY 2016 - $1.423 trillion.
FY 2015 - $327 billion.
FY 2014 - $1.086 trillion.
FY 2013 - $672 billion.
FY 2012 - $1.276 trillion.
FY 2011 - $1.229 trillion.
FY 2010 - $1.652 trillion.
FY 2009 - $253 billion. Congress passed the Economic Stimulus Act, which spent $253 billion in FY 2009. This obviously should be added to President Obama's contribution to the debt.

George W. Bush: Added $5.849 trillion, an increase from the $5.808 trillion debt at the end of Clinton's last budget, FY 2001 for a grand total of $11.657 trillion.

FY 2009 - $1.632 trillion. This was Bush's deficit without the impact of the Economic Stimulus Act.
FY 2008 - $1.017 trillion.
FY 2007 - $501 billion.
FY 2006 - $574 billion.
FY 2005 - $554 billion.
FY 2004 - $596 billion.
FY 2003 - $555 billion.
FY 2002 - $421 billion.

FOR THE RECORD, no President cares. Both parties are equally bad. This is why people like me HATE to pay taxes and 100% of all tax increases on any human regardless of wealth, should be flushed down the toilet. Washington DC cannot manage money. Why give them more?

Every President has been an American citizen, but Trump is the first not to be part of the political class, that's my point.

He's brought an entirely new perspective and skill set to the White House. He doesn't have to play polite like the politicians do. If he sees something wrong he fixes it or says what he thinks about it. No beating around the bush. He's unconcerned with who he pisses off and it allows him unprecedented freedom as president.

He's not part of the political class who have all been using America to push their own agendas. He will definitely end up profiting from being President, but he's already proven his primary concern is to the American people.

Every one wants perfection. That's why politicians are huge liars. They lie so they can seem ideal.

Trump has had a few failed businesses, but I think it's pretty clear that his success far outweighs his failures. I saw a post on FB recently that stated:
"You can help a person 99 times and they'll forget but they'll always remember the 1 time you weren't there."
Same thing.

Most people don't understand that success is built on failures because they never attempt to achieve something. These are the same people that criticize Trump for his bankruptcies. It's better to try and fail then never try at all. All those failures did was teach him how to be better at what he does.

As an athlete, I know a bit about failing and growing from those failure so that I can be successful. When I heard about Trumps bankruptcies the first time I didn't think less of him. If anything, it made him more relatable and human in my eyes.

Failure happens on the road to success. Trump is president now. I think he's been pretty successful. Definitely beyond your scrutiny, anyway.

He started at the very bottom of the top with that million dollars, if you can even call that being on top. That's nothing in NYC. Most Americans would have lost every penny before a year had past.

He had to prove he was capable of surviving in the business world before his dad let him join his business. Very Spartan. It's something people like the Bush's probably would have been incapable of doing.

I learned to do my sport and my parents bought me my first sets of equipment. A good parent gives their children the tools to be successful without handing them everything.

Trump was taught how to do business and his dad gave him the tools to start practicing business. Money. His father did an excellent job of giving him a reasonable start without handing him everything. Great parenting.

Trump earned everything he has and used his skills as a business man to legally avoid throwing away money when he had the opportunity to keep it. He's very savvy and will do whatever he can to come out on top. This is exactly the kind of guy I want for my president.

The families are only separated because the parents are arrested for illegally crossing the border. That is in fact a minor felony. The parents are charged and handed a fine, a process which only takes a few hours at most, after which they would be reunited with their children and sent back across the border. Separating them for a few hours seems much better than arresting the whole family.

The problem comes when the parents then request asylum, which by law the US has to take seriously. Then the parents get held for processing as all required procedures are followed - ie paperwork, background checks, and other red tape - which takes much, much longer.

The whole rigamarole could have been avoided if the parents had followed the proper procedures to request asylum /before/ illegally crossing the border. And there /are/ procedures in place to request asylum, as opposed to immigrating.

And the worst part is, you're making me defend Obama here, since all of this was going on under his presidency. He's even spoken out against illegal immigration and in favor of stronger borders in the past.
reply
2 ups, 2 replies
It's a misdemeanor that they're trying to make a felony now. And most of them were trying to legally seek asylum, which is not a crime. We told them their kids were getting baths then we took them and locked them up and haven't given most of them back. Why not?
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
The procedure to legally seek asylum begins /before/ they cross the border, in their own country. Why haven't the children been given back? I already explained that.
reply
3 ups, 1 reply
They showed up at the border asking for asylum. We could've sent them back. We could've flown or bussed them back for what we're paying for these detention centers. But instead we took their kids and licked them all up. And we don't even know where some of their kids are. The babies are going to immigration trials and sitting before judges at one and two years of age. And for what??
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
**locked** And no, Trump's plan was to just lock them up. They don't even know who or where half these kids are.
reply
0 ups, 2 replies
No, they crossed the border illegally, then they only asked for asylum when they got busted.

And "Trump's plan"? You're not even remotely paying attention, are you? This was set up long before he got into office, that picture up there is from Obama's administration, not Trump's. Trump is doing what he was elected to do, follow the rule of American law.

Granted he could be working a little harder to change the laws, but he's not the one who put them in place. I don't know if Obama is the one who built those cages, but he IS on record as wanting stronger borders and being opposed to illegal immigration.
reply
3 ups, 1 reply
There is no law but the GOP is trying to pass one now. Obama is not the one who built the cages. Trump gave one of the companies $485 million in the past year for this. He had it planned. He wasn't responding to an influx, he wasn't trying to help anyone. It was premeditated kidnapping for leverage because he wasn't getting his way. It's sick.

Totally different situation - but dont let the details get in the way of your 'argument' - The Obama administration will ask Congress for more than $2 billion Tuesday to address the urgent humanitarian crisis along the U.S. border with Mexico.

In the past nine months, more than 50,000 children and teenagers have crossed that border illegally on their own, most from Central America. By law, the administration can't deport those young people until they have an immigration hearing — a process that can take years.

Children that arrived in the US with parents would often be deported without their parents. They would be dumped into their violent home countries without any supervision. I know this because immigration attorneys have told me this.
