Roll Safe Think About It Meme | NOT OBSCENE BUT RATHER NOT APPROPRIATE FOR EVERYONE OF ALL AGES. | image tagged in memes, roll safe think about it | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
However much of what has become acceptable blows me away. Even on "children's programming".

BUT IS IT FAIR TO TELL EVERYONE NOT TO WATCH TV? | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Back in the day there were more "regular" channels and then there was cable. You didn't see nudity or hear a lot of profanity on the regular stuff. So it was fine for the ENTIRE family to sit TOGETHER and watch a little tv.

It's not that way now. And it seems like everyone wants to push the limits of what will be said, done and shown. I think I should be able to put on a show that is said to be appropriate for children and not have things in it which are not appropriate. See what I'm saying?

Then people who want more of an edge should also be able to seek and find what they are interested in. In other words, there ought to be something for everyone. But there isn't. Not in the sense that everyone in the family can sit down together and enjoy a show. Now the family splits up to watch their separate shows. Except me. I don't care for TV and honestly wouldn't notice if someone broke in and stole it. LOL!

Agreed, we once went for 2 years without a TV when it broke down once!
Now that I am on my won and kids all grown up, my TV might get switched once every three or four weeks.

In my 20's I never turned my tv on. My father gave it to me for Christmas, and I lived alone so no one else was watching either. I stubbed my toe so badly I couldn't walk for about 6 weeks. While I was stuck on that couch I watched so much TV, I don't think I have ever watched so much since.

I guess that makes it unanimous. From the time I was in 5th grade until I left for college we didn't have a TV in the house. I rarely watch it now (although I do watch shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime). I just don't have the patience for it and I find the commercials unbearable.

Yeah. And it's not really about being offended (I know BenT didn't really mean us) so much as the "marinating" aspect of it. If children (heck, adults) are going to spend si much time absorbing a certain message or way of looking at the world, I want it to be positive and enriching. Thst does not mean I'm against entertainment, including violence, nudity or crude/low humor - just look at what I post and upvote here! - it's more a matter of balance.

Too right, it's not just the inappropriate material, the whole system is geared towards consumerism and people surely can't help but be sucked in by it all, when it's a constant barrage.

I know he didn't either! I think people get cozy with just one thing and stay with it. It's good to cleanse the palette now and then.

Haha There was a giant rear projection screen TV on the sidewalk around the corner from my house for about 3 weeks recently. Nobody would touch it!

I don't know. That might have been the last one. :)

Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of it. But it can't be healthy for children growing up or for society generally. It's not just a coarsening of the culture but a nonstop diet of a very dark and distorted view of the world.

And kids get to marinate in it these days. I limit what my kids get to watch. But the attitude seems to be, "Well, they have to see/hear it SOMETIME, why not right effing NOW!" It really is affecting people. You are right about that.

Yeah, my wife likes to watch those ridiculous shows on Bravo TV or "the Boob Channel" as I like to call it. ;)

Hahaha. Of course! In fact, it's exactly what I would have expected even without reference to this totally fake chart I made up.
