Here are a few tips that I have discovered over the years on how to collect points a little quicker...if you're so inclined.

1) When submitting a meme to be featured, add a comment or two in the comment section before it features. If your meme takes off and makes it to the top few pages of "hot," you'll get a few extra points when users upvote your meme and the comments. Many users will upvote the meme and see the comment in the comment section and upvote that, as well. But make sure it's a comment that makes sense to the meme and is funny, otherwise it won't receive as many upvotes.

2) When commenting on a meme, do it with a meme comment instead of a text comment. Meme comments generally get upvoted more often, especially if they're funny and witty.

3) When someone comments on your comment, make sure you upvote it, even if you don't comment back. Typically users will see this as a kind gesture and will remember your username and upvote more of your memes and comments. Kindness goes a long way.

4) If you want to have a chance at collecting more points at an even quicker pace, one way I've done this is by commenting on the top users like Raydog and IsayIsay and Craziness_all_the_way's memes. Many of their memes make it to the top few pages of "hot" and if you can get to their memes just after they feature, you'll get more upvotes on your memes because more users will see them.

5) When you submit a meme, I've found that submitting them separately from each other (ie one at 8am, another at 12noon, and the last one at 5pm) will typically get them seen more than if they're submitted all at one time. This may not work for all, but I have noticed a higher viewing of my memes and in turn more upvotes, which means more points.

6) Make sure when you submit a meme, it isn't going to be labeled "NSFW." If it gets labeled this, your view count goes way down and you in turn lose out on a lot of points. Sometimes if you reword the meme and substitute the "bad language" for "barney language" it'll work out better.

7) The more you comment on the top memer's memes (top 20 or 30 on the leaderboard), the more points you'll generally get. Almost every top memer will upvote your comment and in many cases, comment back. This gives you more points.

8) Always visit the "latest" section. There are a lot of great memes in there from a wide array of users that rarely get seen. If you continuously upvote and comment on the "latest" memes, your reputation will start to rise. Others users will see that you are generous with your upvotes and comments and will be more apt to upvote and comment on your memes.

9) Comment. A lot. And keep commenting. A good portion of the points comes from commenting. If you look at the top 7 day user board and see the same names on there all the time, there's a reason for that. Comment, comment, comment. And then comment some more.

10) Don't be and ass to everyone. The nicer you are to other users, the nicer they'll be to you and they'll be more likely to upvote your memes and comments.

11) Participate in the community "projects." Meme weeks are a good way to make cool and funny memes based on a certain subject matter. And it's also a good way to interact with other users. Many of the top users participate in these meme weeks and we hand out upvotes like candy, trust me.

While 4) and 7) are accurate (ie, you will get points if you do it), I don't think they should be encouraged as behavior on the site. Basically doing that just reinforces those users to stay the highest-scoring and most popular users, which makes it harder for other memers to get their memes seen (and also means that there's less variety of memes in the top few pages of Hot).

It works for points, but it's not great for the site overall, in my opinion.

The meme was made to show some of the ways to get points quicker, not about the proper etiquette for the site. If someone asks me (which they rarely do, but they have in the past) about good site etiquette, I'll usually tell them and direct them to ghostofchurch's meme stream about the etiquette here.

But I appreciate your input, even if I don't fully agree with it.

Fair enough. As a way to get points, points 4) and 7) are accurate.

Great post! But we also got to keep things in perspective and know why we're here.

It's 90/10 for me being a 90 to 10 ratio of making memes to getting the points. I'd be lying if I said I don't give a crap about the points, because I am a competitive person and like seeing my name on the leaderboard.

The meme comment should read "become unfunny."

I've been putting out lots of comments this week and a lot of them could have been better if I put more time and effort into them. But I was trying to cover lots of memes and people.

Got no problems with going for the points at all but we just got to keep the big picture in sight that's all.

It's a great write up! Particularly the point about being nice and generous. :)

I don't even want to know how much time you need to spend on the site to garner over 250,000 points a week.

The week of madness is finally over. Mission accomplished. lol

It actually takes less time as you gain experience. Doing 50 comments a day was real hard at the started but that can be done easily now.

Yeah,a lot of these the older users already know, but for the newer users it's always good info. And none of what I posted are lies or misleadings. I've been on this site for almost 5 years and you tend to pick up afew things even when you aren't trying. lol.

1 and 5 were a couple i maybe hadn't heard or thought about before. I visit the latest (tip 8) but it can be hard there at times to be nice (tip 10) when i see the...same...so so if not sorry joke for the...100th...time... Sometimes i have to give a meme an upvote as more of an etiquette thing because i was able to leave a comment because the meme gave me an idea for one and in spite of the meme being not funny or whatever. Another good thing about commenting early is you get in there before somebody turn the comment section into a barf bag for the smut and toilet "humor" boiling in their poor brains. I get in some comment sections of really good mems and things have to hell so bad i just go forget it not worth it.

This is good information! Linking another meme to this one, which also gives really good tips, so I can remember how to find both of these places. imgflip.com/i/1bc21u
