I'm not a believer, but as per arguments below I do accept the concept of free will as a blessing from a potential deity. I don't think the existence of evil in the world disproves the existence of a god, I think science shores up enough facts for simple existence to suffice. I just think a lot of the 'Christians' on this site use their religion as a weapon for their more potent conservative beliefs. If someone labels you anti-religious on imgflip it's likely because they have no factual support for their ideals and simply find it easier to tag you for yours.

Still, I'm pretty sure some of these children may have prayed and prayed, but God hasn't answered their prayers yet.

I know.. It's sad. The 'Christians' on this site always take the easy way.
Want to gain profits? Start a church!
Want to end terrorism? Ban all the Muslims!
Something saved my life? Science is too difficult; God did it!
Atheists criticize my religious beliefs? BIGOTS!! (even though we totally criticize liberals for calling us the same thing)

The Christians I respect are those who start NGOs to go and help those in need. I just wonder what many of the religious types on here are thinking when they read the parable of the good Samaritan? The pious refuse to help but the outcast does. And the old joke about the man grieviously injured who refuses help from three skilled in the art of medicine who could help him but he refuses and trusts in God to help him through his power alone, and when he dies and goes to heaven and asks God why he didn't save him God replies "well I sent you a doctor and a..." :P

I may be avoiding the main meme stream for the rest of the week as it could get ugly with some of the people on here when they start casting aspersions regarding the shooting in Alexandria yesterday. It's a tragedy regardless but many on the right will happily jump in and blame liberalism for some reason.

Good points made. Good idea to avoid the main stream as well. :)

Oh, he'll answer them one day, most likely after death when it won't matter because we're dead,,,
In the meantime, he's busy helping the liars, the cheaters, the thieves, the cruelest of dictators, etc, achieve their goals just to show the rest of us the path to glory almighty. Heck, be corrupt enough, he may even anoint them with the Presidency,,,

I won't bore you with philosophical and theological details unless you are interested. And I agree that MANY Christian priorities should be reconsidered.

About the "problem of evil": if God could do anything, why doesn't he solve the problem of evil?

Like most theological issues there is more than one acceptable stance on the “the problem of evil.”
1. Without God allowing evil to exist, free will could not exist. God allows his creation to have free will so that we can choose to follow him and love him, and we can also choose to rebel against him and choose to do evil. With man’s choice to sin and rebel against God came the curse of sin upon the entire world. Now there is sin, death, and suffering where there had been none all the way back after creation. If God got rid of all the evil in the world right now that would mean getting rid of the potentiality of evil this would mean getting rid of all the people.
2. Scripture is clear that God uses all things in this world for his glory and for the good of those who love him, including evil and suffering (Romans 8:28). Some of my personal testimony is that I was born with chronic kidney disease. I nearly died as a baby. I got so sick when I was 7 yso that both of my kidneys had to be removed and I had a kidney transplant. That kidney lasted nearly 13 yrs. After it went into rejection I was on kidney dialysis for 15 yrs. This past January I received my second kidney transplant. God was glorified in the suffering I went through for the past 15 yrs. because I had to depend on him to get through it, and all of the suffering I went through has been for my good. My suffering drew me closer to God and now I’m so grateful for the simplest things in life (like being able to go to the restroom and do number one, which I haven’t been able to do for 15yrs.)

1. What if people call on God to ask him to prevent evil from happening? Why is it that after they ask, God never really helps?

2. If God uses evil for the glory of himself and those who follow him, is really as good as many believe him to be? Why did he make you his victim when you're apparently one of his followers? What about the people around you whom's lives were impacted by your suffering? Why didn't God consider them at all?
Another question: How come you're grateful to God of all individuals? Why not the doctors who assisted you, or the scientists who worked hard to find a termination to kidney disease? Why thank the guy who only exists in stone-age literature instead of the people who aimed for the future?

There are only 2 ways for God to fully rid all evil; remove everything He created or remove all free will. Even before man was created, evil existed. Lucifer became Satan thru free will. To tell God to remove all evil, it would be no different than telling a parent to kill their child when they misbehave. Parents generally love their children no matter what they do. God is the same way with His children.

It is never as simple to say God allows evil to happen. God allows us to make our own choices and there are times the results of those choices is harmful to others. To say God doesn't or haven't considered the consequences of our actions and the impact it has on others shows you haven't been able to take the time to understand anything about God.

Now have you considered these concepts. If you were to believe the Noah's flood did happen, according to what we know, the most righteous people out of everyone was spares as He destroyed the Earth and killed everyone else. So if the most righteous was left, why did evil come back? If God destroyed the evil then, why say He wants there to be evil to bring glory to Himself?

And what is to say we don't thank the scientists and doctors for what they do? We do. I know people like james who have has years of suffering. So get a cure, others are still fighting. Some start to blame God, others realize it is God that gets them thru it. It isn't the doctors or scientists that are comforting them while they lay in bed at night suffering. They might end up with a cure, maybe theu God's divine will, but what if they don't? Should the family members attack the doctors and scientists for losing a loved one? Should they say "you were educated 30 years ago, and even though you take continuing ed classes, your knowledge is outdated and therefore irrelevant."

1. Satan, the God of Light, wisdom, knowledge of good & evil, and free will gave that gift to humanity via the fruit of knowledge in the Garden of Eden. THAT'S what Scripture says (Not just that of the Hebrews, but of the Sumerians, Egyptians before them, and the followers of Satan before them).

For this, he and Adam & Eve were cast out of the Garden by the petty jealous tyrant God we now follow who didn't think even all the Gods should share in its gift back then, let alone their cute pet apes.

2. I do not mean to sound cold, and I feel bad for that which you have endured, but God is no more responsible for what the doctors did than he is for causing your ailment in the first place. In fact, prior to modern science & medicine, such disease would have been attributed to the sins of your fathers. In Jesus's time, you would have been cast out to live on the streets.

Further, if those hands would have been guided by God, med school, doctors, and hospitals would not exist. We'd all go to Temple and let the Rabbis weave God's magic. The fact that this is not what happens now nor back when God actually roamed the streets and spoke with people and smote the bad ones renders the thought facetious.
