So I'm sitting at this truck stop east of Reno Nevada, and I feel my truck start to shake. I thought maybe someone was trying to get in the back of my trailer, but the shaking kept on going. It lasted about 15-20 seconds then stopped. I figured it may have been a small earthquake. A few minutes later it happened again. I figured that was an aftershock. I was partly right. It was an earthquake, but it was two of them. And they were both decent sized. I called a number which directed me to the United States Geological Survey website, which showed all recent earthquakes in real time. Sure enough, the list updated, and first one, then two earthquakes appeared on screen which were centered a good distance away. As you can see in this screenshot, both of them were over 5.0 magnitude. That's a pretty good-sized tremor. I did some quick calculations and figured out that I am about 80 miles NNW of the epicenters. If I felt that much shaking 80 miles away, imagine what the people in Hawthorne must have felt, less than 20 miles away. And of course the first thing I had to do was make a meme about it :)

Lol. On a serious note, I get alerts from the USGS, I remember reading about those two earthquakes, that's a trip that you were close to them! They said that it was felt in Reno and as far as San Fransico! They also said earthquakes are common around there but not usually as strong as those two! Well, thank your lucky ponies you were sitting still and not driving your usual 130mph down the interstate! Lol :)

You really do get USGS alerts? That's awesome! :D Reno definitely would have felt them (I was only about 10-15 miles from Reno), but I didn't know SF did as well! That's amazing! Lmao @ "thank your lucky ponies" XD

For whatever reason I signed up for the alerts, I still don't know why did! My ex grew up in the 70's and 80's in Simi Valley there in SoCal, she's been through a few earthquakes there! The 94 Northridge quake she said when getting out of her bed it flipped her on to the floor. She said that earthquake was different, it was more of an up and down then a side to side. A hell of a wake up call at 4am!

Damn, that sounds crazy! :o I was only 6 when the Loma Prieta quake hit in 89, but I have some memories of it.

I love that picture! XD

Yea, she said it felt like the ground dropped about 6 feet, it wasn't the usual side to side, that's what she said really sticks out in her head. She was born in West Hills Hospital (San Fernando Valley) in 1966, and grew up there, so she's been through a few earthquakes. (Yea, I like that picture, too! I told you I've seen Octavia with other instruments, not just a cello! Lol)

I'm not trying to outshine you, but we had an earthquake in Omaha over the summer. It was small.

Just before the big Northridge quake... for days, I knew it was going to happen.
5 minutes before it did strike... I woke my ex husband up (we were married then), and told him that the quake was going to be bad and about to strike any minute..
We laid there, in the dark waiting... then he said, this isn;t going to happen...rolled over, and suddenly I heard the glass lights on the ceiling fan start to "ting" it got louder and louder for a few seconds, the all heck broke loose!
He was like "After this, and Big Bear & Joshua Tree last year... I swear, I will NEVER doubt your quake prediction abilities again"

My mother always said that people are antennas, and different people can home in on particular vibes....it appears that you can "Feel" them, your record proves that.....I have a 6th sense, also, but its associated with being able to feel people's emotions... That's absolutely fascinating ValeriLyn! Thanks for sharing that! :)

I haven't experienced earthquake tremors yet. The few very small ones that have happened in my area, most people sleep through.
