I blame myself for generalizing too many things about Trump supporters. As a college student, and someone who cares deeply about moving this country into a brighter future, this is only possible if we all, Republican and Democrats, stand untied in what we hold dear to this nation. I might not agree with how Trump will take his Environmental, Educational, and his LGBT policies, but we as people can make the change to help show Trump that this is what the United States wants. Also, I would like to say that if you want to share how you're feeling (trust me, I was screaming and crying last night about the results) it would make my day and yours as well.

Hey amigo, I actually just left this page to check notices. :) Take it from someone who has seen these changes come and go. Life is far from over, if Hillary had won it would have been far from over. The next 4 years could very well prove to be an extremely exciting time to be alive and it could set the table for years to come. I know you've seen me say it before but Trump was never my choice. That being said we have LONG needed a more small business friendly leader, and someone who understands a balance sheet in office. There is hope that a congress who has to answer to those that sent them to Washington will keep the craziness out. The man knows good people, and where to place them which has always been his strength. It will be interesting to see who gets appointments and that will tell you more about what to expect than the campaign did.

I agree , and while Trump has shown a history of doing things his way , He always had very intelligent advisors surrounding him , as do most CEO's and our Presidents.

Trump, so far has been solid as a rock. It is important to remember that he is a negotiator, and therefore, highly capable of compromise on some issues.
He will let the states decide on restroom laws as well as a few other issues.

I'm not a naysayer, i'm more hopeful than if it went the other way. I've been more impressed with him as the last few weeks have gone by, hopefully he is abandoning the clown suit. Maybe he needed it to get to a point, I don't know, but I like him a lot better without it.

There are some some okay points, but then there are some bad one start at "I will begin taking the following 7 actions to protect American workers:" points 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 are ones I don't agree with, plus he wasn't joking with that wall of his...

Friend, the wall is needed. I live in a border state, until you do, you don't understand what problems unfettered access to this country creates. It may not have to be 2500 miles of wall, but the border needs to be established, protected and enforced.
There is nothing wrong with renegotiating trade deals. These deals have been better for trade partners than they have for us by far. These countries will be willing to renegotiate once we walk away. If not we are still at a net sum gain. As for the trans-pacific, when both sides say the deal is a dog, you can pretty much bet the deal, is a dog.
As for the restrictions on fossil fuels, the ones that argue "not here" are the very ones who want out of the middle east. Well here is a flash, if we are not energy independent in North America we will always be mired in the political bullshit over there. Pick one.
We are poisoning our citizens with tainted water. I say we should go a step further and get out of the UN completely and let them move to wherever they want it. Its a money sink for this country for which we get nothing, not even respect for providing most of the financing for, at a price that your kids and grandkids will have to repay. This country has been broke for quite a while now, and we are only going deeper in debt. The UN is a joke. It is venue for 3 world rulers and dictators to make demands in exchange for promises they never hope to keep. If ANYONE is this country had paid attention to what was actually going on when we went back to Iraq, it was in defense of UN resolutions that were constantly being ignored by an aggressive dictator. I'm guessing most of this goes against what you have been taught and what you read.

I live in California, I know what a border state is. Yeah, I don't know it seems like as a state alone, we are doing okay, I mean I know others are suffering in the other states, but I think their issues should be addressed separately. I just get this mentality that since we are the #1 state in GDP, we could become a separate nation, and would you the rest of the USA be able to live? I don't know this election is really pushing my buttons still, but not in a negative way, in a confused and unpredictable way.

Please tell me he's joking with getting rid of the NAFTA and withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, that's not going to serve any good...
reply
3 ups, 2 replies
Actually it will. Thanks to NAFTA, lots of factories in Wisconsin and Michigan have closed down and relocated to China and Mexico. NAFTA is the main reason Detroit is in the state it's in today, where half the city is abandoned and noone can find a job. If NAFTA is repealed, American companies can't ship their factories overseas anymore. TPP is another bad trade deal where more of the same is going to happen. So either repealing or renegotiating NAFTA and TPP is actually one of the best things we can do right now.

I've actually got to agree with this point. It's created overly cheap labor and pushed manufacturing to less developed nations who have even less regulations than we do.

However, we need to be the ones leading by example on factory emissions, and Trump wanting to put a major climate change denier in charge of the EPA is a bad choice of epic proportions.

I agree that enviroment protection is important, but IMO it's more important at the moment that America gets back on its feet. It's not gonna do America a lot of good if there's no pollution, but there's no factories making anything. As time goes on, we'll find more earth-friendly ways to make the things we need, but I know I would rather put food on the table now than go hungry now for the potential for something later.
reply

I'm for making factories in our country it sounds like a wonderful idea (It's somewhat beneficial for the environment because we know for sure it wasn't shipped half way across the world, I hope they follow all the clean air acts though), it's just that I don't think that's how capitalism works and I have no clue as to how Trump will get his word into greedy corporations that will find loop holes in this. Just one thing, why are his hats and most of his clothing line made in China, doesn't that make him a hypocrite?
reply
1 up
Actually that is how capitalism works. Companies will find the cheapest way to make their product. If we repeal NAFTA and close the loopholes, America is the cheapest option for those companies. And I can assure you, more people would rather have food on the table and be able to pay the bills, than have clean air and living in poverty. And I'm not gonna answer that last question, you'll have to ask President-Elect Trump yourself.

I don't know much about NAFTA, but TPP and TTIP (the European version) would be a nightmare in ways you don't even want to imagine!!

have a look at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKoEuZUHvtQ to see the secrecy behind these agreements.

The trade agreements themselves aren't the main problem, it's the ISDS (investor/state dispute system) that goes along with them that's the main cause of concern :-/

I hope he's able to pivot and unify this country. When one side or the other takes advantage of being in power, it disenfranchises the other side, which becomes the catalyst for change. This was one of Obama's problems. Hopefully, Trump will not make the same mistake.

Well, since both the House and Senate have Republican majority, that's not the case anymore. However, I think conservatives will be thoughtful and like to hear what the democratic minority has to say about this issue. I don't want this country to start an all-out civil war because many Americans have different views again, we need to try and find the common ground.

Change will occur when a) people stop depending upon the government for everything in their lives b) people stop voluntarily giving up their rights and c) stop expecting the nanny state to protect them from every little thing and pass laws against things that they don't like.

I haven't seen the numbers for Minnesota yet, but I was shocked when I got home from school last at 10:15 pm CST. While I didn't vote for either evil (voted for my actual ideal candidate), I thought Clinton was the lesser evil and hoped she would win, and assumed it wouldn't even be close because of what I saw based on the polls. I assumed she only needed to win 1 out of 8 battleground states. I never expected "blue states" to be contested, and certainly didn't see trump flipping any red.

Hopefully he can surprise us. Hopefully he can do some good his first two years with the house and senate both being republican, we'll see how "never trump" they remain to be.

Regardless, the nation needs to understand the importance of working across the aisle, something too many Americans and imgflip users don't seem too understand. That's how/why we ended up with the two most hated people in the nation as the nominees. Do Republicans want someone more extreme than Obama or Hillary next time? Do democrats want someone more extreme than trump next time? That's what will happen each and every cycle until everyone stops attacking the other party/ideology and thinks they're the problem / they're idiots / they're always wrong / they're evil. You see people complain about how divided we are, yet post things that only seek to further divide (insult the other party or ideology).

Republicans need Democrats and vice versa to balance everything out and keep each other in check. We actually need something better than the two party system, but I have no clue how to fix that.

Immediate fixes we need are term limits for the house and senate, and take away the added powers that presidents HAVE HAD TO GIVE THEMSELVES to get anything done because the other party refused to work with them (for sure Bush & Obama, not sure if Clinton did so).

Ghost's takeaway message for everyone, instead of attacking/insulting the other side, promote your side and why it is good. Bring reason to the table yourself instead of saying all X's are dumb. Now, if you want to say all "exes" are I'll throw my ex-wife in that mix and join the convo! I think we all agree it's a nation divided, figure what you can do individually to help bring us back together. If not, that haunting sensation you feel in 2019 when both parties nominate even more extreme candidates will be this Ghost telling you so!

(On my phone, not reviewing two lines of text at a time, so pardon my usual typos/grammar issues.)

The award for most clever and thoughtful comment in this section goes to ghostofchurch, thanks man that was a nice read, I want to thank your state for staying blue and that I totally agree with everything you had to say. Also, Clinton didn't have a hard time passing anything because after he left office before the whole Bush V. Gore thing spiraled out of control creating this kind of two party tension we now see today.

My 18 y.o. daughter posted this on FB today. I would like to share, as it seems there is a common thread being spun: Our country stands for freedom. The place where people go to get away from the terrible lives they have. We are one as a country and we need to start acting like it. No matter who is president, it is up to the people to decide how we act. We need to form together again because we aren't one anymore. This country has and will always be full of racism, sexism, homophobic people, but we need to unite together to keep our country going. As it's said in the Pledge of Allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."....... take a moment and reflect on that...... "One nation." Just one. Not many. Not 2 or 3. One. And then, "Under god." A lot of people don't believe in god and I understand that, so don't pay attention to this part of you don't, but for those of you who do, we need to have faith in him that this is for the best. What is happening and what will happen is because he wants it to happen. Third, "With Liberty And Justice For All" we are all equal. We are one race. The human race. And that has seemed to split and has become very judgmental towards others. Ethnicity doesn't matter. Well, it shouldn't matter but to some it does, and that is wrong. Men, women, colored, muslims.... you name it. We split everyone into different groups and put these standards on them like they are prodigy. We are all human and we can all do the same things. It doesn't matter who is who and what they look like or what gender they are or what ethnicity or color they are. We are all the same race. We need to remember that. This can be applied to the LGBTQ community as well and as a full supporter of that, what they are going through is ridiculous. They are people too and need to be treated as such. I don't care if someone thinks it's "wrong" or a "sin" they are still human. They do the same things we do. Like the same things we like. They aren't any different.

Wow wakester, that speech was very motivational and that's kind of what the Trump Supporter said in my class said when we were talking about the election results. There are no boundaries between us as Americans, but some tend to look pass that part and go the easy way which is being closed-minded. I mean sure Trump isn't the greatest (He's not perfect, but he'll have to do), so let us hope that he picks some very smart and talented members to surround him with.

Thanks. Like I said, my daughter, a freshman at a Christian College came up with this on her own. She kind of takes after me, when it come to looking beyond the BS to not only see the truth, but to make it obvious to others as well. I believe that she is right, it doesn't matter who is sitting in the oval office, it is "We The People" that govern this country, and We the People need to work together if we want to keep the freedoms that we have.
