I think the Hot list should have top memes that are 24 hours old or less(hot off the press). Any of the top memes that are over 24 hours old can moved to a Top Memes list and remain there until pushed out by newer trending memes. Then there can be an Honorable Mentions or a Runner Ups list for the memes that did fairly well on the Latest list. This way they won't get buried in the long latest list. There are some good memes in the latest list that get buried too quickly. Pick an arbitrary number of views that is needed to get an Honorable Mention. It is takes too long to go thru the Hot list to see what is new. If someone missed a day or two, they can check out the Top Memes list. Same goes with the Latest list. If I miss checking in, I can always check out the Honorable Mentions or Runner Ups list instead of scrolling way back to see what I missed. Thanks for reading this, if you did. :)

That's actually a good idea. It would be a good thing to mention to the moderators. I mentioned my idea. Maybe they'll read it, maybe they won't, but doesn't hurt to try.

Thanks. So I should make my suggestion as a new post? Also, I think the motivation to check the latest list would be gone with my 1st idea. I added a 2nd idea to fix that.

There is a "feedback" option on the left side of the screen. I used that to voice my opinion about it. I also used that to voice my opinion about the problem with losing meme comments when you get the notification "you're commenting too much." It worked then, because they ended up fixing that problem.

I gad this very conversation with another user a few days ago. The only problem I see with it, is after the front page, moving the memes to another list will essentially bury them. I have had them hit page one, drop for an hour as one that was getting votes faster moved up, and then hit the front again. If the 2 shared the front page in separate columns I don't see where it could hurt, but it sounds a little cluttered. I have a lot more that don't make the front page than do, I have never felt in any way that the ones that dodn't had their way to it blocked but maybe that's my naivity.

I see what you mean. My suggestions (see my Comment 2 below) were just as a way to reduce the amount of scrolling thru so many memes. When I go thru the Hot list I think "I've seen that one, seen that one also, what's new today?" Perhaps I'm just on this site too much. :P No worries.

nope, it means go to the latest stream more often :) Seriously though, a lot of the bottleneck begins there. The faster submissions rise the faster they will bump out whats been up there too long. That part of the algorithm I think plays more into the movement than we give it credit for,

My idea was just to have maybe a top 100 upvotes memes. It would be a list where the top 100 memes that have the most upvotes would be on there. Same with the memes with the most comments. It would be kinda cool to know which memes had the most upvotes. Just my opinion.

The most I have seen personally was that gif by Crotchgoblin(I think that was who did it) that got over 500 upvotes...the title was "If you look at this for longer than 10 seconds without upvoting, you are a bad person"

Yes, that's the one I saw. 585 or so upvotes. Outside of that one I haven't seen any with more than 420 or so upvotes.

Yeah, separate buttons to those lists on the front page could be fun.

I would be curious to see what got the most votes in history and the most comments, I bet there would be some real surprises on those lists. Not only who's stuff was up there, but ho's wasn't. A lot of the top point scorers, myself very much included, would have a very small footprint if any. You wouldn't want to have them where they could not be voted on or commented on though, as those totals would constantly increase limiting newer items moving up and comments would go unanswered as a lot of the users there are probably inactive.

My idea was that there would be a top 100 list of the most upvotes memes ever from this site. No one could vote on them, but just to see some good memes that got a lot of upvotes.

I'm prettysure I know who has the most upvotes on their meme. That would go to crotchgoblin.

For sure, that gif did crazy good. I think its a good idea. I should have said it that simply the 1st time, but having built sites I have this tendency to think them through and try to shoot holes in what I'm thinking :)

But if you think about it, a meme that has been featured for 48 hours and has reached the front page, if it falls to page 2, how often does it go back to page 1? Not very. Normally those that fall from page one and go back up are around 24 hours old, and was still on the bottom of page 1. If there is a time limit put on for how old the meme is, it shouldn't effect anything. Also creating another page for them to be listed on after being on page 1 would really be no different than having the latest page. So I really still don't see how after 48 hours and it drops off the front page that moving it to another category page is going to kill it. It is not like it is being deleted off the site or anything. And if it is like that with top users anyways, people are constantly going to their pages to upvote their memes, so it is not like it is going to lose all attention or anything.

I've discussed a lot of this with you before. I knew I had stepped in it when I got your first reply. Best to end this now.

So in other words, just like most other users here, you are a greedy SOB that only wants attention on your memes (and other top users's memes), and are incapable of admitting when you could be wrong about something, let alone be willing to explain your point of view in a clearer way that actually makes any sense.

Before you try to claim I am just trying to make it all about me, explain how any suggestion I have made about this site would allow me to control things to work in my favor?

I figure it would be a cool thing to look at on the site. I'm always looking for memes that had a lot of votes because other users keep talking about what memes were the most popular, etc. I think it would bring more interest to the site.

Comment 2: Ixnay on my 1st comment. I see the flaw. No one would be motivated to check the Latest list anymore. How about just moving anything in the Hot list that is over 24 hours old to another list called Top Memes. The memes could stay in the Top Memes list until out ranked by others. 0r there could be lists of top memes from 1 Day ago, 2 Days ago and 3 Days ago. I'm having fun on this site, so please don't take this as a complaint. Thanks again if anyone reads this. :)

Naw, not taking this as a complaint. I like this site as well. The best meme site by far, in my opinion. I just think that maybe if they added something like what I came up with, it would spice things up a bit and make it even more interesting. I've always wondered what the top upvoted memes were. I'm pretty sure I know what the top voted meme is, but after that, not so sure.

Here's the link to the meme (gif) with the most upvotes I've ever seen.

I like your idea too. There could be a Meme Hall of Fame list. :)

I would go for that. And it would be based on the top 10 or top 100 upvoted and commented memes. I think there would need to be some restrictions like the comments the creator of the meme comments on their own meme shouldn't be counted, etc.

Actually, the downvotes still do what they did before they took the upvote/down vote bar away.

It would make since to do so thing like Reddit, and downs are subtracted from ups

I had a meme that had over 200 comments, but that's the best I could do. I recently had a meme that had 245 upvotes. But the men with the most upvotes that I've seen had close to 600. It was one of crotchgoblin's gifs.
