There are lots of different definitions on the word, but the most common usage is 'a fear of synthetic substances arising from "scare stories" and exaggerated claims about their dangers prevalent in the media.' Though it has the -phobia suffix, it is not a medical condition, but rather a social prejudice or irrational aversion to synthetic substances or substance of unknown composition
