Well, technically it's also most likely a fake tweet... So, it's apparently a double-whammy in that some people think the tweet is real, and that some other people think the Earth is flat.....

I don't think stupidity and ignorance are becoming more common, just that stupid and ignorant people now also have access to stating their opinions.

I guess everyone can personally determine what level of evidence is needed to accept whether a given hypothesis is true or not.

It seems to have been around for years..... Apparently it's a faked tweet, for the very purpose of making people think it's real (the maker of the phony tweet thereby getting to laugh at people believing in a false tweet, that's about people falsely believing the Earth is flat)...

With all such things, we all would be wise to do some cross-referencing before automatically believing almost anything on the internet...
