Patriotism. There’s a word thrown around a lot. It inspires passionate debate. It’s worn like a badge of honor, and with good reason. Cause it means love and devotion for one’s country. Love?

For a word to designed to unite, it can also be pretty divisive. See, there’s more to patriotism than flag-sequined onsies and rodeos and quadruple cheeseburgers. Patriotism is love for a country. Not just pride in it. But what really makes up this country of ours? What is it we love?

It’s more than just a huge rock full of animals like cougars and eagles, right?

It’s the people.

Do me a favor. Close your eyes for a second. I want to try something out.

Picture the average U.S. citizen. Think about it. How old are they? What’s their hair like? How much can they bench? You got one? Okay.

So chances are, the person you’re picturing right now looks a little different than the real average American. There are 319 million U.S. citizens. 51% are female. So first off, the average American is a woman. Cool, huh? Is that what you pictured?

54 million are Latino. 40 million senior citizens. 27 million are disabled. 18 million are Asian. That’s more people in the U.S. than play football and baseball combined.

9 million are lesbian, gay, bi, transgender – more than the entire amount of people that live in the state of Virginia.

Around 10 million are redhead, 5.1 million play Ultimate frisbee and 3.5 million are Muslim… triple the number of people currently serving in the United States military.

Almost half the country belongs to minority groups. People who are lesbian, African-American and bi and transgender and Native American and proud of it.

We know that labels don’t devalue us, they help define us. Keeping us dialed into our cultures and our beliefs in who we are – as Americans.

After all, what’s more American than freedom to celebrate the things that make us: us. God save the Queen.

That is interesting what you wrote. The only thing I have a problem with is the mention of "minority groups". I say they are either Americans or they are not. And it is far time they decide what they want to be called. There is a reason America is called a "melting pot". I don't care what your background, race, or whatever you are. If you are a citizen who loves freedom and are willing to fight and die to preserve America, then you are an American!

It's not illegal to own a gun in the UK. My uncle lives there, and has a revolver as well as a rifle for hunting.

Basically they've made it nearly impossible to one.
He could never tell the police he wanted those weapons for self defense.
Since 1960 theyve slowly but surely stripped you of you rights. Soon they'll be completely outlawed.

Lol my uncle wound never use a gun for home defense; that would be a waste of his medieval weapons collection :)

Lol. Crushing rape-ugee skills with a mase would be epic. Using 7th century weaponry against a 7th century death cult. Seems legit.
I personally wouldn't want them within 20ft of me.

lol we're actually a lot more worried by Polish immigrants here than immigrants from the Muslim world. Depend on where they're from though; the ones from Iran and Iraq are usually a lot nicer, but the ones from Pakistan tend to be nuttier.

They're all going to eventually run Europe into the shitter.
The polish kick ass. The say no to the rape-ugees.

When somebody asks you your nationality what do you say? I tell them American. Sometimes I get a look like I have a d@ck growing out of my forehead, and I know what they mean, they want to know where my heritage is from. But, I proudly answer that I'm an American.

If a foreigner asks me where I'm from, I'll tell them the United States. If someone local asks me where I'm from I tell them which state, and sometimes even the town.

If I'm asked(which I'm hardly ever) what my ethnicity is, I tell them a mix of several things, including Hispanic. But I am American because I was born and raised here. I'm native American in that sense.
